If he projects into a #2 hitter, why is AJ hitting #2 today?

It is the first game of spring training.

ST=practice, try things out. AJ was tried out last year.

Exactly. It's practice. There's plenty of time to try out plenty of guys hitting in different spots in the lineup.

Hasn't Ozzie said Getz would be 9th hitter?

Oh, and it's the first day of Spring Training.

You may want to start a thread explaining this. Between this thread and the poster in the gamethread asking why Richard was taken out after throwing two innings since he was throwing a no-no, you gotta wonder if people think the regular season has already started.

I would like to point out my post in the GameThread was purely teal... Because, you know, that's a ridiculous position to take.

Clayton totally had a no-hitter. I don't care if you overwork him, you PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! CACTUS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE WON AND LOST IN FEBRUARY.

I didn't see your post...I saw the other guy's post. If you said it, I'd know that teal was implied.

Nah, the threads that start later in Spring Training about our Spring Training record are worse.

Yeah, even though we finally get to start talking actual baseball, the spring posts are often worse than the offseason posts.

Here is my take on Spring Training:

1. Look at when the starters are in. If we play well when they are in, then we should be fine. If not, then there should be concern.
2. If we get hammered late in games with minor leaguers and it happens on a consistent basis, then what should be taken away is the fact that the organization continues to lack depth at the lower levels.

Time will tell.

it's completely meaningless.

Not at all. Spring Training tells you absolutely nothing about a team. You learn about the team you have in April, not in February/March.

I think you are right about the team, but you do get to see the youngins play, which I like. The point of starting the post is, if a guy is good at something in the minors, excels at hitting in a certain spot, and we don't have a #2 hitter, why is he hitting #9? AJ played a good amount last year in the #2 spot, we know what he can do there, Getz is a #2 hitter, hitting 9th for some odd reason. If the games mean nothing to people, then there shouldn't been a problem with starting him out where he is comfortable in the lineup from day one. I am not jumping to conclusions or bitching about nonsense, I feel this is a legit question. Ohh and BTW, AJ is not a #2 hitter.

I'm thinking that every positive event should be a sign of the season to come and each negative event suggests that ST is meaningless and the season hasn't started.

That's the way it usually goes down.

Then champagne comes to bitch about something completely irrelevant.

Since when does where so and so is batting in the order equate to a negative?
