Probably has no shot of making the team though.

It's to distract us from what's going to happen tomorrow.

Ladies and gentleman, your 2009 version of Brad Eldred.

Will Corky Miller have to be released to make room under the self-imposed salary cap?

I'm really glad for this. He'll really help to fill in those holes the Sox have at first base, DH and corner outfield.

Somebody's got to play first in Charlotte.

Wouldn't that be Allen this year?

Well, maybe somebody needs to DH in Charlotte.

This move is just roster filler for spring training. Broussard has no chance to make the team.

Allen, Seth Loman? We have a ton of other options for 1B/DH, but whatever, I just really hope we didn't spend anything beyond $500,000 for him.

Maybe Broussard will finally reach his potential here.

This is a good depth move in case of an injury to Paulie or Thome.

I'd say we're good in the depth department.

Ben Broussard is a worse version of Ryan Garko. He has no place on this team.

It's just a minor league deal that's surely only in place so that if Konerko or Thome go down, the Sox have some organizational depth and don't have to rush Allen to the Majors to fill some PT.

Don't forget about Betemit too. I'd say he's first in line if anyone spends any time on the D.L.

I guess it's good insurance in case anything happens with Thome or Paulie. It's good to hear some baseball news that isn't about steroids.....

You can't be serious. There's no way Allen, Flowers or Loman would be ready to step in should Konerko or Thome get injured.

Broussard is just a guy to hide in triple-A in case of emergency. I don't see why this signing is so horrible to people.

1. Joke is old
2. Joke was already used in thread.
3. Joke loses any bit of humor when you have to explain it in parenthesis.
4. Why use teal, and confirm sarcasm?

Because he's not Brian Anderson, that's why.

Really though, I don't see the harm in this deal. If Konerko goes down and Betemit sucks, Broussard will be our best option.

I actually got excited for a second. I remembered the name and remembered that the name was okay a couple of years ago. In reality though, the name is just a name, and probably won't be displayed on a White Sox uniform this year.

Sigh, just 54 days left.

Same reason Brad Eldred was horrible last year. Many folks have absolutely no clue.

I know, I know. I was beating a dead horse on that one. I posted it before I saw Doublem's. Besides, I see it used on pitchers all the time but, maybe I missed it being used on position players. Maybe we need a "Coop'll fix 'em police" post and you can be the head sheriff in town.

I'm only reviving this thread because I was just viewing the list of White Sox salaries for 2009. They have Ben Broussard listed as the 9th highest-paid player in the organization at $3,850,000. Is this true? If so, are the Sox paying all of this, or is Texas paying part of it? That was his salary last year, but I find it difficult to believe the Sox are paying him that much.
