I don't see any details of the money in there, but this is likely to be a good deal for both sides. I would have liked to see him get shipped out of the division, but then again he's really the only thing about the Royals that ever worries me.

For some reason, we own Zack Greinke and then he goes and pitches well against the rest of the AL Central...
Career stats vs Sox: 17 G, 14 GS, 3-8, 89.1 IP, 94 H, 51 E, 49 ER, 20 BB, 77 K, 4.94 ERA
Combined stats vs. MIN, DET, & CLE: 48 G, 36 GS, 14-16, 217 IP, 223 H, 101 R, 90 ER, 67 BB, 141 K, 3.73 ERA
He can stay.

I had not realized that. I always thought he performed well against us. Lets hope it stays that way.
Reports say 38 million. A rather large contract for the Royals.

Unless there are some large no-trade concessions, I would put the odds that he plays the entire contract out in Kansas City at 25-1.

No kidding. Even in the current FA market, I think that $9MM per year would be an excellent deal for the numbers he puts up.

I think he pitches pretty well at home against us, but really struggles when he comes to the Cell. At least that was the case in 2008.

This is kind of surprising to me because he's said a few times that he didn't want to rush into a multi-year contract before making sure the Royals would be competitive. I guess the money was right for him.

Yep, he was 0W-2L with an E.R.A. of 15.00 against us at The Cell in 2008. Sox batters hit .444 off of him in those two games.:o:

I did enjoy that friday night July 18 game against him last year, the first game back from the All Star break, when the Sox beat his ass and scored 6 runs in the 1st. He was gone after 3.

He has some kind of mental tick at the Cell. That's fine. Hope he starts against us opening day.

Great deal for the Royals. Afterall, they gave Jose Guillen $36M...

How does this compare to the Floyd deal? Kinda different - with Gavin we just bought out his last year at the minimum and his 3 arbitration years for 15.5mm and got a 9.5mm option on his first FA year. On Greinke, they bought his last two arb years for 11mm, and 2 FA years for 13.5mm each.
We got a better deal. Greinke may be better - but he only has one full season under his belt - just like Gavin.
Given the choices of the two deals, I'll take Floyd for 3/15.5 and a 9.5mm option over Greinke for 4/38mm.
That said, I'm happy for the Royals.

me too, but my reasoning is Greinke doesn't pitch too well at the Cell

Isn't Floyd's 4/15.5? with a 9.5M 5th year option?

He did have one or two lights-out games against us in his rookie or second year.
But he's also a pitcher where if you don't give up runs by the 7th, you get rid of him for some guy who is being showcased to Kenny and still have a chance at a "W."
