Yep. It's better than the production we received out of the position last year.

Not exactly Eddie Matthews type numbers.

If Joe Crede hits .247 with 20 homers and 155 strikeouts, he pretty much sucks. If its Fields, its a nice projection. I don't understand.

Because there IS a difference between a 6 year veteran hitting .247 and a young guy getting his first shot at a full season at the ML level.

I think he will hit better than that and hit more HR than that

He'll still field the ball with his face though.

I'll take that also.

I'm interested in people's opinions on this: Could Wilson Betemit do any better? I don't know enough about him myself.

I don't remember him being a butcher in 2007, granted I didn't see him everyday like people in Chicagoland or access to a lot of games.

That site also had TCQ hitting .268 next year with only 23 homers.

Plus with Joe, he'd give you great defense. He will give you 50 games, at least we know Fields will play a full season unless he actually GETS hurt. Crede is a walking injury.

Yea... the site probably looks ate career totals when putting HRs and AVG together. He wasn't too good until last year, they should look at it like a rookie year though, with some experience. :P

I don't consider this a good projection at all, and expect more from him this year.

WSI likes to blow things out of proportion...both good and bad.

I also expect to see Fields much improved in the field. Not sure if it was on this site or a real white sox article, but Fields has been working with Joey Cora on becoming a strong defender since October or November. While this will not put him at a top level of defensive 3b, we haven't had that since 2006 any way. In 2007 and 2008 the Little time Joe spent on the field he was no where close to good defensively (probably a lot due to his back).

Josh won't be a gold glover, but working with Cora to soften up his hands and improve his reaction time will do a lot for him. I fully expect him to be a league average 3b this year defensively.

The thing that will keep him out the lineup is inconsistent offense. He has to come out hot, because you know Ozzie is going to be itching to put Dayan there if Fields starts slow.

My fields prediction based off nothing more than gut instinct: .263 26 home runs 142 ks 32 doubles 71 Rbis 11 stolen bases and average defense at 3b.

I don't understand why everyone is so down on Josh, granted his defense is atrocious, but he did hit 23 home runs and knocked in 67 RBI's in only 100 games before an injury plagued 2008. What's not to like about that potential?

You answered your own question.

Most people also feel his offense will be one dimensional. Good power, but low average with too many strikeouts.

If we get that production in the 8 hole, I don't think you or I will be complaining. Joe Crede hit low in the batting order, as will Josh. I will take those numbers out of that spot any day of the week.

I would be happy if he played third base half as well as Snoopy played left field.

I guess you missed the main point of my post. Many people aren't excited about a below average defensive player with 30 homeruns and 150+ strikeouts. His game looks pretty one dimensional.

You're forgetting Joe Crede was one of the best defensive 3B in baseball.

Valid, but don't young people have room to improve? Or do we make biased arguments after 100 games of show and one un-injured year? According to your standards of one year predictions I can say that Josh will end up being a Adam Dunn type who strikes out a lot and hits many bombs.

But, I don't come to any rash decisions of one- dimensionality based off of 100 games of performance. Did he seem one- dimensional two years ago? Absolutely. Did he seem it last year? Can't say, he was playing injured. Will he be one dimensional for the rest of his career? Can't say, must see him play to decide that.

So, I understood what you were trying to say, but I still think that making statements proclaiming his future are a tad bit early.

At least Juan could play defense.
