I'd say Chris Stewart.

Stewart maybe? I think it's to be determined.

Will Cole Armstrong get a shot even though he hits lefty?

i dont know if it means anything (it doesn't because either we sign a backup and/or there will be a fight for it at ST), but according to the white sox official website (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=cws), cole armstrong is on the "active roster".

Tyler Flowers--I put that in deep pink because it would be great if he was doing good enough in ST to be with the big club in 2009. Probably won't happen either way though because the kid needs playing time and doesn't need to be sitting on the bench.

Lucy got an invite to camp, does that mean he has a shot?

I'll say he gets it.

Don't know if this is a solution but Henry Blanco is a free agent. I find him as a respectable back up catcher. He hit nearly .300 last year and does a good job with the pitchers.

I'll volunteer for the job, and I'll even donate 1/3 of the salary to WS Charities and 1/3 to buy tickets for WSIers.

Seems like a good fit. Friends with OG. Heard that he is good with handling pitchers.

I hope not....I cringed every time that guy came to the plate in 2007...

I can dig it

Blanco sounds good, but how about Greg Zaun, he was decent as a starter with the Jays and would only play like once a week. I still don't understand why we got rid of Hall though.

I believe Kenny said earlier in a conference call that it would be between Chris Stewart and Corkie Miller. However I'm sure if one of the other catchers steps up, I don't see why Ozzie wouldn't take them.

We got rid of Hall because of cold, hard, cash my friend. We didn't want to pay the $$$ on his option year.

Hitting isn't as important for a backup catcher as defense. I have always liked Blanco's defense, or at least his defensive promise, although I haven't seen him play in years. I like liked Blanco as a Brewer when I lived in suburban Milwaukee. In 2000, late in the season, he was throwing out nearly two-thirds of runners who tried to steal off of him. He is Venezuelan, of course.

I would be most concerned with Flowers' defensive game. I'm afraid that if he hits well this spring, the worst thing the White Sox could do would be to bring him north. It would be best for the Sox if he could develop as a strong defensive catcher. Maybe he won't, but the White Sox probably have a brighter future if he does.

I think both are pretty good options as far as a back up catcher. Both are about the same age but I do think Blanco would come a little cheaper.

Sorry, my bad, I didn't know that. With Zaun out then I would go with Blanco.

I agree bringing up a minor leaguer would be the best but that's hard to develop one when they wouldn't be playing much more than a game or two a week.

Or maybe it was because he is one of the worst defensive catchers I've ever seen, can't hit the ball out of the infield, and basically immobile in all facets of the game.

Cole Armstrong. He had a good AFL run this year.

The perfect fit would be to sign Chris Coste.

But, I'm hearing talk of the Sox moving Paulie back there when A.J. needs a rest.

Well he was drafted by the Dodgers as a catcher.

And our manager doesn't give a **** about defense, so I guess it cannot be discounted. That said, we won't play Walnuts at catcher. We'll have some other sack of crap that bats RH so Ozzie can abuse his bull**** RH/LH thoughts.
