Not a terrible deal. Good for the Bravos.

I wanted Lowe for maybe a 2 year deal at most. I can't believe there are teams willing to throw 4 years around.

One thing for sure, he is durable. He might be there in 1 piece for that 4th season.

Time for plan G.

Does Garland now get 3 year 30 million?

He is solid throwing 200ip year in and year out, noting special IMO. A nice 3-4 starter in the AL probably 2-3 in the NL.

Who the hell is going to throw that at Garland, his ERA was not good, and I would expect him to continue to decline. Probably better suited for the NL though.

I think they overpaid, but pretty much had to since after losing out on Smoltz and Burnett. Can you imagine going into a season with Vazquez as your #1 starter?

There were more than a few people saying Javy was our #1 going into 08.

I have always thought Mark has been the Ace, and that will not change until he loses his mind and has back to back bad years.

4/30

I doubt Garland gets more than a year. Especially as the clock keeps ticking closer and closer to Spring Training. I doubt there are any Carlos Silva like deals out there for him.

I was not aware Derek Lowe was part of the plan.

I'd be very surprised if he can be had for a 1 year deal. But if he can. it will be a sign that the market is starting to get more rational about large FA deals for mediocre players. I'll be happy if that happens. I'll also be glad we aren't tied to any longterm stupid contracts.

Like a Barry Zito contract or Andruw Jones? I still don't see how the Dodgers GM has a job with Jones and Pierre on that team.

Yes, how dare he build a team that only gets to the NLCS.

His team made the ALCS last year. And you think he should be fired?

Hmmm...If Kenny had like $25mill sitting on the bench/DL, how would people feel?

The same as they do today - some would piss and moan like crazy. But most of those people are ignorant douchebags who look for ways to bitch and have needs to show that they are smarter than KW and to prove that JR is cheap.

If the team wins games and makes the playoffs, most of the good fans will be happy, and most of the douchebags will complain about something.

By the way, most of the people who would complain about Jones being on the bench would be the same asshats that complained that we were too cheap and stupid to sign him in the first place.

Javy's going to love that ballpark and the pitcher hitting. I bet his numbers rebound. Especially if the Braves are not in the race.

Lowe's '99-'01 stint as Boston's closer probably helped him to get the fourth year on the deal. He has proven himself capable of pitching out of the pen, so I imagine that the Braves are looking at a reliever role as the downside in the later years of this contract.
