LIFE has a made a literal ton of their photos available online. They have some great White Sox photos (click here) (http://images.google.com/images?ndsp=21&hl=en&safe=off&q=white+sox+source:life&start=0&sa=N). Some great photos of Luis Aparicio.

This picture below shows Gerry Staley with his son. The description says, "Chicago, June 1960," but it does it say where it was shot. Any ideas?

That's not the same theatre. I believe that photo w/ Staley was taken in Hyde Park.

Here's another photo of the theatre on Madison Street...not the same as the Staley photo-

It would be interesting to find out just where that pic was taken.

From another thread "1960s Photos" "Imperial" appears to be a restaurant.

This one was taken on Hyde Park Blvd. (51st Street) next to the old Piccadilly Theatre. you can see the Metra Electric (then the IC) viaduct in the background.

Lots of Sox players (and Veeck too) lived in Hyde Park. Obama's house is exactly 5 blocks in the direction that Gerry and his son are walking. During his second tenure as Sox owner, Veeck lived 1 1/2 blocks West of where this photo was taken - on the 5000 block of Dorchester. There is a plaque in front of the house now,

Is this the current day building Staley was standing in front of? Near Hyde Park & Harper? (look at the arches at the top of the windows)

We did this a couple weeks ago, see 1960 photos a few threads down. Imperial is a restaurant or a lounge, you can see "Cocktails" in the window. I think the theatre is the Pickadlly.

See the posts in the thread about 1960s Sox photos. I wrote:

The theater closed in 1963, but its facade is still there - the building was bought be the U of Chicago and is presently married student housing. The Imperial Bar is now the office of the Hyde Park Herald newspaper. Many Sox - and lots of visiting teams when in town - stayed at the Del Prado Hotel on 53rd and Hyde Park Blvd., about five blocks from where this picture was taken.

I have been using the 5th picture there on my work computer. The resolution on that computer is much lower than my computer at home.

Exactly. Harper is behind them and the photographer is standing withhis back to Blackstone. I drove by the facade of the old theater about an hour ago. The theater itself was ripped down - it went on behind the hotel building and is now a parking lot.

I was at the final show at the Piccadilly - I was about 9. It was a Godzilla triple-feature, complete with the little peanut girls crying "Mothra, Mothra!"

I missed that discussion. Sorry mods for a repeat. On the other hand these photos are very, very cool and merit much discussion.

The photos are great.
Thanks for the promotion but I'm not a mod.
