Wow, I always assumed he was "Doc" Ellis.

RIP Dock, I have one of your Topps cards from 1970. Sounds like he may have drank heavily

As a kid in the very early 1970's I use to go down to the hotels where the visiting teams stayed for autographs and Dock Ellis was not very friendly at all.

I'm going to take a hit of LSD (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3782859) in your honor, sir.

I never saw him play, but my parents told me he was quite the ass wipe. He even had his own personal warmup jacket with DOCK stitched on the back.

I wish I had been alive to see this game (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1974/B05010PIT1974.htm).

Ellis' game plan was to hit every single Reds batter. He drilled Rose, Morgan and Drieesen, Tony Perez drew a walk, and Ellis was then taken out of the game.

Yep, that would be the "hallucinogenic no-hitter".

Yep, that would be the "hallucinogenic no-hitter".

Actually no - the acid trip no-hitter was June 12, 1970 (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1970/B06121SDN1970.htm), just over four years earlier.
