We still need a veteran backup. Gregg Zaun might fit: a right-handed bat who can draw a walk. Is there anyone better out there?

I was looking at him the other day as well. The only questions would be:

1) How's his arm?
2) Is he determined to go out and get a starting gig?

He's a switch hitter.

He's a switch hitter.

Looks like this year he didn't do too well vs lefties, but '05-'07 he was pretty damn good hitting lefties from the right side of the plate.

I think it depends on how much money some of these guys will demand. With the new look of the Sox it seems they're not going to pay a large amount to a backup. I could easily see the Sox finding someone like they did with Widger in '05 for next season. Like KW said, Corky Miller or Chris Stewart.

I think Zaun is actually capable of throwing people out, and has a decent bat. Hasn't he been injured on and off the last couple years?

I don't care if our backup catcher can't hit. We need someone who can throw people out in the 8th/9th. Because Lord knows, our pitchers can't hold anyone on...

I'd rather have Michael Barrett.

Somber signing.

I was just coming in here to post that EXACT thing. I was going to say, "I don't know - this would be a rather somber signing."

I rue the day I decided to eat breakfast first.
