Does this guy even have half the stuff they claimed he had when he was drafted?

Reminds me of Scott Ruffcorn.

I thought the same exact thing. High draft choice, some success in the minors, dreadful in the bigs.

I think Ruffcorn just got jittery in the show. He made three errors before recording a putout or an assist, and retired with a fielding percentage of .714.

I think they both have 83 MPH fastballs. Coop can't teach stuff.

Tomo Ohka was a better signing.

I was starting to worry about the Knight's pitching rotation.

I see him as being an "experiment" by the Sox. Nothing more, nothing less. If he does well then he should be allowed to contribute. Hey, it could be worse, we did bring Ryan Bukvich (I know many of you have other naughty names for him) up in 2007. I don't know of many who could have been a worse Minors experiment than that.

The MVP for MIN in 2003, Jose Paniagua.

Signing him to a minor league contract can't hurt. I would rather us take chances with small deals like this or inviting guys to Spring Training than missing out on someone that can be turned around.

Yeah, they should get upgraded next but atleast the Barons are set now.

It seems like you can never have too many former first-rounders in your organization. This guy has been brutal in the majors every time the Pirates gave him a chance. Change of scenery, teach him the cutter, you never know. For a minor league deal I'm willing to find out.

Is he ambidextrous? Why else would both shoulders have to be reconstructed? :o:

Wasn't he supposed to be a great hitter but the Pirates converted him into a pitcher?

Convert him to a reliever. Then pray.

There's no need to pray. It's a minor-league deal. There's no risk involved. If he sucks in camp, the Sox will just cut him.

He hurt his non-throwing arm, which messed up his swing long-term, which is why he wants to remain a pitcher.

Yes he was. He led Division I with 31 homers his junior year. I'd love to see him converted back to a hitter. He can't be a much worse hitter than he was a pitcher last year.

IIRC he was also a top hitting prospect... maybe they will try to Ankiel him?

It couldn't be, there's not enough room for that last name on the back of a jersey.
