John Perroto over at BP says there are rumors that the Sox and Mets are working on a blockbuster deal that would send Jenks and Dye to the Mets for a package that includes Fernando Martinez.

Well Dye has a NTC to the Mets, so that's the first stumbling block. And 2nd, we better get a ****load more than Martinez in return. Murphy, Carp, Niese, Pelfrey, Kunz, etc (not all of them, just some names that would be worthy of inclusion). If we landed Pelfrey, he would be the perfect replacement for Javy. Only problem is 2009 is the last year of his current contract, and Boras is his agent . But because of service time, I don't think he'd be a free agent, I think we'd do arbitration with him.

I find it hard to believe a trade rumor from a site called "faketeams.com"

FWIW - Baseball Prospectus is the source of the rumor.

That trade would suck. FMart could easily be a bust. I don't think the Sox should package both of those guys to the Mets. They don't have enough great prospects to get it done.

If the Sox sent both to the mets they better be getting someone back named Reyes, Beltran or Wright.

Well, if this goes down and we don't end up signing several big free agents, I officially go into hyper-depressive mode about 2009.

I rarely follow trade rumors no matter what the source. Rarely does whatever is rumored happen. The Braves one was an exception, I think it was reported 2 weeks ago that the Sox were talking to the Braves about Javy. Usually Kenny pulls off trades that no one expected.

I think a fair trade would be Dye and Jenks for Pelfrey,FMart and Heilman.

That isn't going to happen. We might be able to get Beltran out of them. Maybe.

I dont see this happening...but I have been wrong before and will probably be wrong again. I just don't understand trading one of the only really solid arms you have in the pen. I would not want to turn into the '08 St. Louis Cardnials. Or even the 08 sox when Bobby was down...

Would it be a blockbuster because Kenny got 10 prospects back in return? Prospects 10 thru 20 in their system?

Give us a major league outfielder instead of Heilman, I'd go for it. Maybe Church or Chavez... We'd probably need to add a good prospect to get that to work, though.

We are hearing Martinez, so I guess 10-20 is out of the picture, now isn't it?

Since they're losing business to NetFlix, Blockbuster would actually sponsor the trade.

I agree. I think it would be worth acquring Church.

Why? He's nothing special.

What use would Church or Heilman be to us. Church maybe, but he could just as easily be a one hit wonder, Heilman, please, hes a mediocre RP so built up on his own hype he is demanding to start. We already have 5 starters better than him.

To me, Dye for Bailey and keeping Jenks is much better then Dye and Jenks for Fernando Martinez and a bunch of **** prospects like Murphy. Put Pelfrey in the deal and maybe, but I just assume keep Jenks for another year until we know Poreda is going to take over closing. We don't have 1 other pitcher on this team capable of closing. Linebrink and Dotel have sucked their entire careers when given the chance, and Thornton is far too streaky. I know we like Link a lot, but Bobby is one of the top 5 closers in baseball.

well it sounds like kenny williams wants him. but he can't have the actual carlos gomez so he's going after fernando martinez who might be his twin? thats why i asked what i asked earlier.

I like the way the writer of the article implies that it would be easier to acquire JJ Putz. As if the Mets wouldn't have to give up much to get him. Yeah okay...what a bunch of bull****.
