Any thoughts on signing Scott Podsednik to a 1 year deal at a very cheap price? He could take the spot of Wise and be a late inning pinch runner.

The biggest probelm is he is hurt far too much though so that is why I think it wouldn't hurt only if he is extremly cheap.

So, so stupid. He can't even run anymore, let alone hit.

Why are there so many people on this board that want to bring back players that were already on this team? Let's see if Carlton Fisk is interested in backing up AJ!

I'm interested because he is a threat to steal off the bench and if gets a minor league deal that wont hurt.

Wise is faster than him. No thanks.

Why not just keep Wise? :?:

He's a bigger threat to steal, and is better defensively.

I've yet to see one good reason why signing him to a minor league deal would be a bad thing? If he gets hurt big deal its not like the Sox would be counting on him.

If he stays healthy he can be valuable off the bench.

I've yet to see one good reason to sign him. You want him to take Wise's roster spot...why not just keep Wise?

Pods is no longer the threat he once was to steal a base. He's practically worthless as a player today. Although, to this day I still feel his bat is underrated.

I think we should bring back Robby Alomar. I'm sure he has something left in the tank. Why don't we sign him to a minor league contract? What could it hurt?

I think the Sox should have a contest between Podsednik and Rickey Henderson to see who gets the minor league contract.

:whiner::whiner::whiner:

It'll be a great day in White Sox history when there are no members of the 2005 team still playing in the MLB.

Maybe then we'll move on.

What the hell point is there to signing an injured, slower, worse-defensive version of Dwayne Wise?

Seriously? What's the point. I hate the idea "Well, why not, it's a minor league contract". Like oeo said, "Why?", there is no good reason why? We all have question marks about Wise, yet we're willing to sign the slower, more injuried version of him?

Ugh.

Completely, 100%, agree. Under this logic, why not sign almost every MLB player without a home to a minor-league contract? I mean, if just one of them gives us lightning in a bottle, it's a great success!!!

In the meantime, every broken "future star" that we pick-up for a steal is the next Carlos Quentin, or every Cuban-born prospect is the next Alexei Ramirez.

The majority of posters in this thread were being objective about the idea of signing Pods in November of 2008, when there was no reason to think it was a good idea.

As was stated earlier, it is not so much that people thought it would not work (valid argument to have made at the time), but many posters went beyond that and said it would be a waste of time to even try. With it being a no-risk, potentially some reward move from the very start, the original poster has a right to gloat.

What I find funny is people coming back to this to laugh. No one saw this coming, and if you think you did, you're full of ****. We never saw Pods play this well at any point in his first tenure. We got lucky, just like a lot of career years in 2005.

As he said, signing Pods to a minor league deal was no gamble. He acknowledged that it might not work, but he saw no harm in trying it. He got ripped for even suggesting that modest move.

He was not advocating putting him on the 25-man (or even 40-man) roster. If he had said Pods would definitely come back and be effective, that would be one thing. But he didn't, and no one else did, either. So that's not the issue.
