Something that defies logic, yet makes some sense. Meets a need, could happen, defies team policy, displaces someone....you get the idea.

I'll start:

We outbid everyone to sign Rafael Furcal. Five years, $65 million.

Really? I can't see the Cubs adding that kind of salary. I think they would need to dump a large contract and that's not including retaining Dumpster or somehow adding Peavy. The Trib is damn close to being forced into BK.....

I was going to post something similar. Hits .270, 30 homeruns, and drives in 90, all while playing solid defense (not spectacular, but making the plays he needs to make).

Although, I don't think it's 'crazy,' I think it's something he can realistically do.

Crazy: Fields, and not Quentin, is our MVP candidate. Hits .290, 40 homeruns, while driving in 125.

I'm really pulling for him. He's had the frustration of putting up good rookie numbers in the bigs, only to get sent down to AAA when we couldn't trade Crede. Then was hampered by injuries. Hopefully with Crede out of the picture and a clean bill of health, he can be something special. The big question marks will be: can he give us something close to average defense, and can he NOT strikeout 1 out of every 3 at bats.

I don't see why this should be labeled as crazy, the potential is there, fulfilling that potential is the only thing we need to see.

Now my crazy...

Clayton Richard with 17 wins next year becomes our fourth starter and Javy is relegated to bullpen during the playoffs where he claims he won't care because in the end this is just a game and he will always have a home outside of baseball.

Jerry Owens steals 40 bases, while only managing 50 hits.

Boone Logan and Mcdougal appear from the minors only to be sent back to the minors with letters of recommendation to Aaron Poreda.

Ozzie Guillen goes on a minimum 2 tirades criticizing someone or something related to White Sox baseball.

Kenny Williams looks like a baseball genius when Lance Nyx becomes an all star second basemen.

Paul Konerko loses .1 seconds on his dash to first.

Jim Thome loses 1.

The Sox sign Barry Bonds, in hopes of giving a legend one more shot at a trophy.

Brian Anderson crashes into the center field wall a minimum of four times.

A brawl will ensue between the Sox and the Royals (or whatever team Miguel Olivo is on) at least two times.

Kenny Williams is finally awarded GM of the year, after making 5 ludicrous moves into gold. Apparently the previous signings weren't enough.

Sox beat the Twins in the season series 12-6. Going 6-3 at the metronome.

White Sox win the world series in 6 games, against the Diamondbacks.

Well, even if you still think BA will become an All Star, 20/20 is not realistic. The guy has never been much of a base stealer, and stole only 23 bases during his entire minor league career. I think asking for 15 is pushing it.

He definitely has the potential to hit 20+ homeruns, but the .275 is also a bit out there.

After struggling badly, giving the Post endless fodder for their gossip column with his after-hours shenanigans and generally embarrassing the club for the first part of the 2009 season, Alex Rodriguez is effectively booed out of New York and traded to the White Sox for Josh Fields, Aaron Poreda, Matt Thornton, Jermaine Dye and a PTBNL.

The Yankees also pick up 1/3 of Rodriguez' salary through the 2011 season. Rodriguez rebounds nicely, although never returns to the level he once played at. The PTBNL wins a Silver Slugger award in 2012.

I typed this up very quickly a few weeks ago, and while it isn't a prediction or even "what I would do", I thought it was just an "interesting (to say the least)" scenario:

Sox trade Paul Konerko to Angels for prospects
Sox trade Jermaine Dye to Braves for Kelly Johnson and prospect
Sox trade Javy Vasquez, Bobby Jenks, Aaron Poreda to Mets for Carlos Beltran
Sox trade Josh Fields and prospects to Ms for Adrian Beltre
Sox sign Adam Dunn 5 years 65 million
Sox sign Jeremy Affeldt 2 years 8 million
Sox sign Juan Cruz 3 years 12 million

09 Lineup

CF Beltran
2B K Johnson
RF TCQ
LF Dunn
3B Beltre
DH Thome
SS Alexei
1B Swisher
C AJ

Fields and “prospects” for Beltre (Type A) might be the biggest stretch, pretty much depends on how valuable Fields is.

That leaves roughly 10 million to spend on starting pitching for ’09 + with at the very least the unspent “Tori Hunter” money from ’08 to add to that if you want.

Dunn can move to DH in 2010 with Johnson to LF (or pass on his arb and collect picks), opening 2B for Beckham.

The other stretch is the size of Dunn’s contract. I had zero interest in him until I saw numbers this bad and even worse being rumored for him on a few websites. If he isn’t around that $$$ I keep Dye and roll with Getz at 2B.
