If this is true, I wonder if this means Hoffman will retire. He's 41, the all time saves leader, the only thing he would probably want is that world series ring.

If no team wanted to pick up Trevor Hoffman as a closer, would he come back as a set-up man? With his changeup, Hoffman would provide a nice contrast to Bobby Jenks.

Hoffman will get a closer role and deal no question. Padres management is just being idiots.

PR nightmare losing Hoffman, Peavy and cutting payroll in half.

If Hoffman leaves the Padres.. I see him wearing a Mets uniform...

They only have a 1 year/4 million offer on the table to him and they pull it 4 days before the start of the FA signing period? Man does that come off incredibly nasty and cheap.

I wonder if all this is really Kevin Towers' doing (entire off-season embarrassment) or if the ownership situation is that unstable. I know one of the owners is going through a divorce and is about to put 50% of the team up for sale.

I could see Hoffman being still effective but only in the NL. He has been a long career and a ton of NL batters faced. He is not coming to the Sox, but I do like the Mets idea. They are in need of some bullpen pitching. Their starters were good this year but the pen did let them down.

They could have easily signed and traded him to the Mets! At least try to get something for the all time saves leader! Wow, that organization is turning into the Pirates! Look at all my exclaimation points!!!!!!!

The Padres are classless *******s! They sent a fax to his agent to notify them that they no longer wanted Hoffman. Take your career 554 saves and get the hell out!

This is all on ownership, they are cutting payroll cause the owner I believe is having some kind of legal problems.
