Are you kidding, this made my week! :rolling: My roommate and I almost killed ourselves laughing. I was a fan of them when I was about 10 years old, but so were most girls my age.

At least one of them is from Tampa. That's pretty cool.

John Madden said on today's show he was having a hard time getting into the WS since he thought the Rays (and the Phils) were a playoff team but not much else ("not like the Red Sox") all year. I guess Madden doesn't watch much baseball then and was easily duped by ESPN and the rest of the big market biased press.

One of the worst national anthem renditions I've ever heard

Still kind of kills me inside to have such a big event in a dome, death to indoor stadiums!

I see this lineup being announced, and still don't get Wowed by the Rays, but after all those wins and this postseason you know they're for real, and they have the talent, but it's still kind of funny to see so many big money teams end up doing nothing. Also makes me hate agents more and how ridiculous some "values" they come up with for their players, okay, back to the game...

Buck and McCarver continue to find ways to annoy me. Throughout the entire post-season, they've talked about Pedro Feliz as though he's never gotten a hit in his life.

Over his career, Feliz has averaged roughly 20 HR/80 RBI per season, which, while certainly not Cooperstown worthy, is indicative of a productive offensive player.

Honestly, if these guys- who are paid to provide intelligent, insightful commentary- cannot get their facts straight, they should just give up. Fox's baseball coverage is beyond sad, and idiots like Tim McCarver and Joe **** make it even worse.

Maybe it's my imagination, but Joe Buck clearly does not care for Ryan Howard at all. I have to wonder if it's because Howard won the MVP over Pujols two seasons ago, and possibly could do so again. Regardless, Buck has made a point of mentioning every Howard mistake- be it actual or perceived- since the playoffs began.

Fair enough, but that is a big call. In a 1-run game in the 6th inning, the difference between no outs, runner on 2nd and bases empty and 1 out is pretty huge.

Fox clearly has an agenda, and Joe Buck appears to be the driving force behind it. They're pissed that the Red Sox and Cubs have been eliminated, and are doing everything they can to milk the Rays. It's really quite sad.

If the Phillies hang on, you can believe they'll bring that play up tomorrow night, as well. The whining and excuses never end. Joe Buck still occasionally whines about the dropped third strike by Josh Paul three seasons ago.

An overall solid game with the requisite hapless play-calling from Buck and McCarver. Phillies hang on, lead 1-0.
I'm starting to find Kazmir an enigma. His stuff has been very uneven this year, and he throws a ton of pitches to get through five-six innings. I wonder if he isn't compensating, as he had elbow problems in spring training.

Well, hitting 20 HR and getting 80 RBI (with stacked lineups in front of him, remember) is just about all Feliz does at the plate.

His career AVG is .252, with a single-season best of .272. His career OBP is a ridiculously bad .290, with a single-season best of .305. His career SLG is an only slightly below average .429, with a single-season best of .515.

He's a bad hitter, but supposedly excellent in the field, which is why he still has a job.

As bad as the Phils hit in the first two games, they're lucky it's tied. It's possible though that they could stay home either way! Definitely a quirky series so far with play shifting to the Bank.

Shields wiggled out of trouble all night, Myers was just meh, and here we are. I just don't know if the Phillies arms other than Hamels can stop Tampa. I would start Blanton for Game 3 if I was Manuel because they need to win that game in my mind and Moyer.....he may be finished.

The blown balk call in game one could've been a difference maker, and there was a blown pickoff call against the Rays in game one, as well. So far, it looks like the umps have picked a team to help out in each game. Either way, I'm not convinced if they gave Rollins first anyone would have come up with a hit for the Phillies.

The Phillies had a chance to win this, and they needed it. I think the Rays are really going to hit Moyer and Blanton. So, unless they can start hitting with RISP they are in a lot of trouble. Outside of Hamels, this is a below average pitching staff.

Remember how both of them literally kissed Jose Vizcaino's fanny after he got that game-tying pinch hit off of Bobby Jenks in Game 2? Buehrle and Moyer are somewhat similar, in the regards that they both are not hard throwers, they are both lefties, and they both have to rely on locating the ball to get guys out, instead of blowing it by them.

The only difference, and it could be considered a significant one, is that Buehrle throws harder. Then again, Buehrle is 17 years younger than Moyer.

TDog

It seems to me that this five man infield thing never works.

The first time I saw a five-man infield was in a Cubs game, after school when I was a kid, on April 28,1971 (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1971/B04280CHN1971.htm). Don Kessinger went to third on an error and Expos manager Gene Mauch walked Billy Williams to get to Ron Santo. He brought the left fielder in to play on the left side of the infield. Santo rolled a ball down the third base line. Bob Bailey let the ball roll, and it hit the base for a game-ending hit. The replay showed the base was misaligned, and the ball hit it in on the wrong side of the chalk, but by definition, the base is in fair territory.

The ball Evan Longoria fielded to end tonight's game wasn't going to roll foul, but I was thinking of that Cubs-Expos game from 37 seasons ago before the ball was hit. I've never seen that defense work, even when the pitcher gets the ground ball.

Well, considering how absolutely horrible the results to basically the entire Stanley Cup playoffs were this past NHL season, the results to this year's MLB playoffs have made up for that just a little. The only thing that could've made these playoffs better would be for our Sox to be still playing, obviously.

Probably not. I watch a little here and there. Joe Blanton just hit an HR.

Amazing, we got the better end of some trades with the Phillies and they are in the World Series. The players that we gave them aren't on the team - Rowand and Garcia.

So far, Longoria and Pena are hitless. Why couldn't Longoria had played like this in our series with them?

Is it safe to say that Evan Longoria is crumbling under the pressure of the world series?

Alexei would've gotten a hit there. :redneck I agree that it's getting to him, seems to be getting to Iwamura as well.

If the Rays don't manage a run this inning, the game is most likely over.

The Rays are sucking ass. At this rate they deserve to lose.

The Rays are resembling the Devil Rays. I don't think they'd be able to overcome a 3-1 series deficit, so it's imperative for them to win tonight's game.

It's great that the Phillies are playing so well, though.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I love watching the World Series, and it's a lot easier to do this year with the likes of the Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs nowhere near the Fall Classic. I'm just such a baseball fan that I can't imagine passing up opportunities to watch the beloved game for the last few times before old man winter and the off-season officially set in. After the World Series ends, we have to wait over four months to watch another live ballgame.

My thoughts exactly! I was hoping this would go the full 7 games - when it's over, I am going to miss baseball. The World Series sans Boston, NY, etc., has helped lessen the blow of no more White Sox baseball this year. I've been watching the Bears, but it's not the same. Opening Day 2009 can't come soon enough.

Since the Sox were knocked out, tonight's game has been the first game I've had on in its entirety, because there's no hockey on tonight. Like the other non-Sox game days, I'll be tuning in tomorrow during hockey intermissions. If it isn't the Sox when it comes to baseball, I can either take it or leave it.

Um, yeah.... Sounds like he's violently ill, though! In my opinion, those are the times professional athletes earn their keep- when they play, no matter how sick they are because it's for the good of their team. Remember the game when Jordan has such a bad flu and he scored so many points?! That was classic.

Well yeah, I admire him for pitching through it. But I just finished dinner and wasn't expecting that! :redneck

It was fun seeing another team other than the Yankees or Red Sox on top of that division this year. For that, we have to thank the Rays.

I kind of like the Rays in Game 5. I can see a team like Philly going off for 10 runs and piling on when they didn't need it and then having their bats go silent the next game (or maybe I'm just used to that from seeing Sox teams do it in the past). Yeah, it's Cole Hamels, but he's been beat before. I didn't think Tampa would beat Lester at home either but they lit him up

Longoria only killed us against Vazquez and they were terrible pitches (ESPECIALLY the 2nd one, looked like a little league pitch, he had 5 minutes to adjust to it), what a terrible decision starting him turned out to be...

Well, Tampa has not looked like themselves the past two days. I still have a feeling they'll escape Philly tonight with a win. If they do, Philadelphia needs to worry again.
