I can't believe 2009 will be the 50th anniversary of the Sox winning the American League Pennant for the first time in 40 years and going on to lose to the Dodgers in the WS. I was 13 years old and that 59 team is still my favorite(Boyhood heroes).Went to game 2 of the series. Question is, has anyone heard how the Sox will honor that 59 team during the 09 season? I think it would be neat if the Sox wore the 59 unis on all Saturday fireworks nights.

Maybe somebody should dump a beer on TCQ, while going after a HR ball.

That was the game I went to, poor Al Smith. That picture will live in infamy.

Thome should wear a sleeveless jersey, ala Big Klu.

I'd love to see the guys wear the 59 unis. Maybe AJ can go sleeveless like Big Klu,lol.

The beer would be too scared to piss TCQ off, so it would defy gravity and land back into the cup.

Not sure if you already knew this or not, but the Sox play the Dodgers at home on June 23-25 next year. Even though that's a Tuesday-Thursday series, I'm sure they'll definitely have something planned for that series to commemorate the '59 Sox.

I can't believe it's been 50 years either. One of the first games I ever went to, they gave away a 3-ring binder that says "Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Go Go Sox of '59". I still have it, and keep all my Sox baseball cards in it. That thing is 20 years old now. Geez.

At some point during the tribute, I'd love to hear some excerpts from the radio broadcasts. I spent the entire season listening to the games, on the radio, with my dad. In 1959, we had three local TV channels and could barely get WGN on a perfect weather day. Hearing Bob Elson, again, would bring back some incredible memories!

By the way, I still have, hanging on my wall, a reproduction of the front page of the Chicago Daily Tribune declaring "White Sox Win Pennant!".

I wonder, how many members of that team are still alive and how many of them will be able to be here?

Nellie Fox, Big Klu, Sherm Lollar, Early Wynn, and Norm Cash are no longer with us. Al Lopez passed away within a couple of days of the 2005 Championship.

Off the top of my head the only remaining members of the team are Billy Pierce, Jim Landis, Gary Peters, J.C. Martin and Bob Shaw. I may have missed one of two guys. Everyone else has passed away including the coaches.

I remember but my Dad always thought he could and would be a regular if he got the chance. I still to this day don't know if he was right but he was convinced.

There were a couple of years when I put up a post on September 22 noting the anniversary of the White Sox' last pennant. I would do so with a nostalgic yearning mixed with an envy for the Sox fans who were alive in 1959 and got to see them actually play in a World Series. I would always hope against hope that somehow, some way, they would win another pennant and I would get to see them play in a World Series.

I am very happy that I am no longer putting up such posts. :D:

By the way, another anniversary is coming up in a couple of days.

Oh don't worry, Tommy, I am getting ready to celebrate the October 26 anniversary. It is a very happy day in my household. And so no one thinks I am hijacking this thread, I look forward to any and all celebrations that the White Sox organize next year to honor the 1959 team. It will indeed be interesting to see which players from the 1959 team are able to attend.

Well put!

Thanks to 2005, the 50th anniversary of the '59 pennant will be nothing but a positive event for me. If we hadn't won it in '05, marking 50 years since 1959 would be mixed with envy and frustration.
