I always thought of him as a possibility at second.

I figured this would happen.

On the surface this makes signing Hudson important if they want to go the FA route to fill 2B.

Mark Ellis re-ups with the A's for two years.

I for one believed he might be our second baseman in '09, as he was really the only viable FA option that wouldn't require a long term deal.

This puts the Sox one step closer to a Getz/Uribe/Beckham Spring Training comptetition.

So he's getting $5-6 million a year guaranteed? That's pretty damn cheap. That's a real good hometown discount.

With the "preview post" button you will see that your stupid yoda image didn't work.

It works fine on my computer. I'm not really sure why it doesn't appear for you.

Because you're using an image off of this guy's server, and he doesn't allow it.

This is what everyone else sees: http://www.yodajeff.com/remote.gif

Beckham will not be part of any competition. It will more than likely be Getz with a caddy (Uribe/Grudz).

Craig:

You keep pushing Getz and all I can say (again) is what I've been told. He is a last choice for the position, period.

Kenny does NOT want an inexperienced 2nd baseman and an inexperienced shortstop (Ramirez) working together in the middle of the infield.

The Sox are expected to "contend" again next season. Kenny is not going to turn out the roster or some key positions on the field to players who have little to zero experience in the major leagues.

He'll find someone to play 2nd base while Getz sits and learns.

Grudz as in Grudezlanek? (sp) ... man, I have nothing but good things to say about that guy. Watching him in KC over the past 3 years, the guy is the consummate pro, an unbelievably clutch hitter and a great clubhouse guy. Is this real? He would be a great stopgap until Beckham was ready. Good #2 or #9 hitter ... without looking at his splits.

Unbelievably consistent hitter.

As it should be.

Also, if Ellis can get $ 6 mil. a year for 3 what can Hudson get? $ 10 mil. a year for 4 ?

So they trade for Eric Patterson and Adrian Cardenas draft Jamile Weeks number 1 and they re-sign Ellis.

Granted it's only as two year deal but you have 3 guys who could be playing 2b for Oakland soon.
