View Full Version : Tribune Co. and Players Contracts

Given the current financial woes and the huge debt payments looming over the Tribune Company, it is probably not too far fetched that the Trib could go into bankruptcy before the sale of the Cubs. If so, could player contractual commitments be up for renegotiation by bankruptcy court?

I vaguely recall from a Law class that money due to employees is one of the first payouts in a bankruptcy case. It would be paid before almost all other debts. Say, you're not the owner, are you?

I don't think the baseball side is even concerned about that in the least. Story in the Tribune quoted them as saying they aren't "done" with improving the team and they'll go after whatever they think they need.
