Rays 4-3.. Neither of them won an away game vs. the other in the regular season if I heard right.
That is incorrect. The Rays took two in Boston in September, while Boston took one in Tampa the next week.

I think the Rays will win it in 6.

Rays 4-3.. Neither of them won an away game vs. the other in the regular season if I heard right. That was true up until the second to last series, where the Rays took 2 of 3 in Fenway. The next week, Boston won 1 in the Trop.

I would like to pick the Rays, but I have seen this storyline before. "They are the better team. They beat them in the regular season, better head to head record." Sadly, I don't think it will matter. We will be subjected to more of the national media pleasuring itself to a Red Sox pennant.

Dear Rays,
Please beat the Red Sox in the ALCS because we are soooo sick and tired of the obnoxious Red Sox fans and all the Red Sox hype. GO RAYS!!!!!

By the way, if the Rays win the AL pennant, that'll mean that all four 1990s expansion teams will have won at least one pennant.

By the way, if the Rays win the AL pennant, that'll mean that all four 1990s expansion teams will have won at least one pennant. That would be amazing, considering the Rangers, Expos/Nats, and Mariners have never won a pennant. On top of that, there are 12 teams that haven't won a pennant in that time period (1993), and we all know the longest pennant drought stands at 63 years.

Seeing them in the series would be very sweet. I really don't see either National League team being much of a threat to the AL pennant winner. Anything can happen though.

Come on now. They're a great story. An amazing baseball story in the modern era. Their payroll is a sliver of the rest of the teams and their roster was built almost entirely from the ground up.

Whitesoxfan23

I hate the Redsox so much, that I can't really bring myself to truly pull for them, even though I can't stand this whole Rays bandwagon thing. Joe Torre is a class act, and I like pretty much every player on the Dodgers, so Dodgers all the way.

Explain to me this: Who is exactly the Rays bandwagon? A group of fans that don't want to see the Sawx win another one, but don't want the NL to prevail? If that's what is, then count me in. There is absolutely nothing inherently wrong with the Rays. They're a good team full of young, hungry players that aren't grossly overpaid. They're what baseball should be.

Count me as being all-aboard the Rays bandwagon

Lol, I know right? I thought the Rays were gonna be better this year, but not THIS much better.

I remember some idiot Red Sox fan talking about how the Rays were gonna finish ahead of the Yankees in March. Well, that became true. What's even better is that they finished ahead of Boston too.

Pedroia is the man. He and Youkilis are their best position players now. Lowrie is also ascending to that level. I think Papi gets one more year, then they'll get rid of him. He's either hurt or finished. Teams no longer fear him.

Chip is even more awful. I remember last year the TBS blimp showed an overhead shot of the Chrysler building and he was like, "You're looking at Downtown Manhattan", when that location is actually Midtown. But I digress.

Here's the way I see it: I'd rather lose to the World Series champions then just another play off team.

I don't know how anyone on this fan base can cheer for the Red Sox. Those fans have been more obnoxious than Yankee fans when they come to our stadium. And they field a lot of unlikable players like Papelbon and J.D. Drew.

If I see a Red Sox vs. Dodgers series with the Manny subplot I don't thinK I'll even watch it. I wouldn't mind Rays vs. Dodgers because they are two young teams. Anything but Red Sox vs. Dodgers and hopefully anything but Red Sox, because then we'll be subject to Boston fans saying they could have three sports dynasties in this decade.

I'm with you, I'm not going to hate the Rays just because they beat the White Sox. They were the better team, the coaches and players even admitted that and well it was just plain to see that fact as well. They play the game right and they got a lot of young guys you can root for in Longoria, Shields, and I've always liked Carl Crawford. But most of the Red Sox players I can't root for. Ortiz seems like an alright laid back type guy, but even more so I can't stand the fanbase. Go back to 2000, I never really saw people wearing Red Sox stuff. Come eight years later, I see Red Sox **** all the time. I've also met several people who indentify themselves as Red Sox AND Cubs fans. And they've given me the two curse thing as the reason. Idiots.

Whitesoxfan23
10-12-2008, 06:02 PM
Them beating our Sox, isn't the reason really that I won't root for them. Their fans didn't show up to the regular season games, and they had to block off alot of the seats for the postseason. Oh, and the cowbells almost make me watch the game on mute.

I'd root for the Phillies; but, the Rays have to get there first. Boston does have a knack for coming back in a series, so the Rays can't let up here. Not that I think they would, because the Rays look completely "locked in" and have since April.

The Red Sox are about to be 3-1 on the road and 1-3 at home in the postseason! It's starting to look like HFA is less of a factor in the playoffs. It hasn't played out like the regular season at all. Wow, the Red Sox are getting manhandled. Watch out Phillies.

What you'll hear from Red Sox Nation is that they had to play without Mike Lowell and that Manny isn't there to help; therefore, they'll label this as a shorthanded Red Sox team, hence tarnishing the stunning job the Rays are doing.

I remember thinking that exact same thing after the Yankees beat them 19-8 in Game 3 of the '04 ALCS.
I understand what you're saying, but the '04 Red Sox at least had Manny in their lineup.

This current edition does not have him. Heck, when they made their comeback in 2007, they had Manny and Lowell in their lineup, and now, they don't have either one of them.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet, but she's taking the stage right now. IMHO, they ain't gonna do it.

EDIT: I forgot that Bill Mueller was their 3rd Baseman in '04, not Lowell.

I can't stand either team, but I hate the Red Sox less. I hope they come back, but this series is over. I just hope the Phillies can pull off a miracle and beat them in the World Series. I hate the Red Sox less, because they have two players that I actually give a crap about. Youkilis, and Pedroria.

Go Phillies. Screw this series, I could care less about whoever wins, which looks like the Rays. However, we all know what the other Sox can do in the ALCS in the 21st century, but W/E, as long as either team loses in the WS, it doesn't matter.

We don't HAVE to! Considering our Sox were eliminated by these same Rays last round, I've been extremely calm recently. The Cubs being blown out helps; the Red Sox playing like they got inebriated before each of these past three games helps too! Oh, and Red Sox fans can't say "Oh, well we got a round further than you," either, because at least our guys didn't get embarrassed to this level by the same team. Our Sox got narrowly beat by Tampa. Tampa is dominating Boston in every way. Because of my very own Transitive Law of Baseball, our Sox would've beaten the Sawx.

I like the way you think! As I was telling my stepdad tonight, if we had to go down, then I'm glad it was to a team of this caliber, and we made a fight of it.

I'm still shaking my head that the two teams with the best records went down in the first round. I thought we'd never hear the end of the Angels' and Cubs' "magical" seasons.

He hit 24 HR in 129 games in 2007 - he has HR power. This year, he was coming off a shoulder injury, which is most likely the reason he wasn't hitting for power.

Who does Tampa have left? Or the Sawx, for that matter.

Tampa has the lefty that's good, forgot his name. They also have Bradford and some other guy that is decent. And David Price.

Boston has no one. Maybe Beckett.

Beckett would be pitching Saturday night, so I doubt he'd go tonight.

I'm glad there won't be Papelbon with his antics, as he's already pitched.

Not only you. Our Sox are the only team not included from all of the two-team markets, plus there are multiple Cubs, Cards, and Sawx shots included. That chick getting a Sawx tattoo is freaking scary.

Mike Timlin, Javier Lopez, and Paul Byrd. That is all I see from their roster. Not exactly awesomeness.

And Wakefield could go if needed I guess.

Crowd has sounded pretty nuts the past 2 innings. Not going to be very rowdy when you go down 5-0 so quickly.

It's an elimination game in the ALCS. You have to be loud and behind your team no matter what the score is, imo. I can understand Wrigley being like a morgue in that situation...

Need a big hit here Carlos.

Unless it is a false sense of optimism and success until the Rays win 15-2 in Tampa. I guess I could settle for that.

... but I guess it ain't over until the fat lady sings..whatever that means.

It is a reference to opera. An operatic climax can involve an aria sung by a large woman. A prima donna (that too is an opera term -- literally Italian for "first lady) has a tendency to be a large woman.

The first person I heard use the phrase was Bulls coach Dick Motta in the 1970s. I thought it was funny at the time. Now it's just a tire cliche.

I honestly don't care who wins this game. I dislike both teams.

Not a good idea. He gave up a strike and set himself up to be struck out. He would have to get the bunt out far enough so the catcher couldn't field it and close enough to the line so the pitcher couldn't field it. The shift doesn't concede the bunt single as much as it dares a hitter with little speed who never bunts to try to get a bunt hit.
