Looking back, all the Sox needed to do was win 2 of 6 this week to either clinch today or be able to clinch tomorrow and they couldn't even manage that.

Hopefully a Tiger's team with nothing to play for doesn't come in all fired up that they should be golfing and had to come to Chicago.

Who's throwing for Detroit tomorrow? Floyd on short rest in NY was a disaster.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are currently playing in the 11th inning. Good news for us the longer that game goes. An already shaky Tigers pen being used heavily today, followed by a Freddy Garcia who isn't like to pitch very deep into the game while making only his 3rd start since June 8th of 2007? Sounds pretty good. And we'll be throwing Floyd who has a 3.45 ERA in 8 starts against the Tigers. :praying:

Basically, we're at the equivalent of being down 3-2 in a 7 game series. It doesn't matter who faces us Tuesday if Tuesday doesn't happen. However, if we play like we did today- we should be able to pull it off and be playing October baseball. There was just enough offense and clutch hitting, smart base running, fantastic starting pitching, two solid innings from the bullpen. Basically, everything you're supposed to do to win baseball games that we've been missing lately.

Let's hope this was more than a dying gasp.

If anyone had any doubt why the Sox were willing to break team policy and give Mark four years instead of three, this afternoon was it.

One of the few guys on this team who appears to truly care regardless of how much money he makes. It means something to him.

Short rest, season on the line, 121 pitches in his previous outing. And then he goes seven strong innings, allows one run and throws 111 more pitches.

Mark Buehrle has the guts of a burglar and the gonads to match.

If only some of his teammates (I'm looking at you #33, #18, #30, #24) gave a damn as much as Mark this thing would have been done last week.

I hope this may inspire some of his teammates to play well tomorrow...it would be ironic if Freddy ended things (especially after the Sox talked internally and decided to pass on signing him this Summer.)

Mark was money, no question.

He knew with the way the schitzophrenic Sox offense and bullpen have "performed" in the crunch lately, he couldn't afford to give up more than maybe a run early on, that he couldn't afford to have high pitch counts by the 5th inning..... So Buerhle succeeded giving the offense a chance to exploit Cleveland's lousy starter and equally lousy left INF defense (Carroll botching a routine DP by Uribe that gave us 2 critical runs).

Also thumb-up to: Konerko, Griffey, Dye... and Ozzie's rock-solid game management. :o::smile:

(Negative: Mr. Clutch Alexei better get his head out of his ass in the next few days; Sox badly need him)

Hopefully, today did not represent my last trip to the Cell for the year. I hope to be back there next weekend for one of the games against the Rays.

Gutsy effort by Buehrle. He was behind in a lot of counts, and he gave up a lot of hits. But he found a way to get outs and found a way to win without his best stuff. Four DPs turned, as well as a pickoff. Mark is a resourceful pitcher, and he showed that today.

The odds favor the Twins at this point, but we still have a fighting chance.

What a great game. We were having a seventh B-day party for our son, so we had the whole family here to sweat it out. They clinched in 2005 against Detroit on his 4th birthday. They have a chance for playoff play if they beat Detroit tomorrow, on his 7th. I'm hoping for the best tomorrow, hoping to escape work to watch the game.

Just want to echo the sentiments of other Sox fans and say thank you again to Mark Buehrle. What a game! I was so proud of Mark and our Sox. It was great to see them battle and get the win today. Sox play tomorrow because they won today. Let's keep it going! Go Sox! :bandance:

I think I saw on the ESPN crawl that ESPN2 would be televising the game too, if for some reason WGN screws you out-of-towners.

what time is the game tomorrow?

Wow, did Buehrle ever man up today!!!! He was absolutely amazing. It was like a playoff atmosphere again this afternoon and I think the team finally fed off that. I thought it was awesome how, when Buehrle & Cooper came walking in from the bullpen before the game, EVERYONE stood up and cheered Buehrls- not just the people along the left field line. Classy.

I technically have a ticket tomorrow, but alas, my responsibility is to the youth of America, as my two personal days are already allocated for SoxFest and Opening Day 2009; and before anyone mentions it, a sick day is not an option. :(: That being said, the kids may be getting a lesson ESPN GameDay. Seriously though, I've got a little radio in my classroom that will be on when I don't have kids in the room and when I do, GameDay will be minimized on my computer. GO GET 'EM TOMORROW, BOYS!!!!! :bandance:

I was in San Francisco today and missed the game. I turned on the Giants game for scores on my way home and after Jon Miller mentioned that the Twins were winning, he noted in passing that the White Sox had already won their game. Really, I expected Mark Buehrle to win. But I was disappointed to see he lost when I looked at Wednesday night's game scores.

I always believed in Buehrle, even early in the season when I was critical of his pitching. Now it's just a matter of going down the line in reliability, particularly reliability on short rest. Floyd has to come up big on Tuesday to give Danks a chance to come up big on Tuesday. Just as there was no tomorrow today, tomorrow there will be no tomorrow without the win that would mean another tomorrow where there is no tomorrow.

They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. The Sox aren't killed yet. This century, only three American League teams have won the World Series, and with two more White Sox wins, all three will be playing in this years ALDS series.

Any way Mark would pitch one one days rest two consecutive days?

It seems possible, the guy is the man!
