The Royals are playing good ball at the moment: 8-2 in their past 10 games, and they have won 3 straight. They have an incentive to play well since a good weekend showing could push them ahead of the Motown Kitties in the standings.

Young out at home on a wild pitch. Gomez out looking. KC out of a jam in the 5th still up 6-0.

I was listening to the Giants game on the way home from San Francisco last night. Benji Molina, after leading off with a hit, went to second on a passed ball one pitch, third on a wild pitch on the next pitch and on the next pitch was thrown out at the plate on a ball that went to the screen, Benji Molina being the slowest man in baseball. Jon Miller was talking about how it was bad baseball to try to score because there weren't two outs and it wasn't clear he would make it, trailing the Rockies by a run at the time. The Twins were down six. The seems to be dumb baseball. Unless it works, I guess.

It would be nice, the Sox not playing until tonight, if I had the Twins came on Fox this afternoon. But just as ESPN televised the Cubs game last night, Fox has the Cubs game on this afternoon in Northern California. Even if the Sox game is meaningful tomorrorw and TBS should televise it in Northern Calirornia, which they wouldn't because the Cubs playing in a game that could decide the National League wild card would take be more important appearently than a divisional race, apparently, I'll be driving to San Francisco tomorrow. I'll have to listen to the A's or Giants game to get any scores I care about.

I've been to more Sox games in person than I've seen baseball games on television this year. But it's just as well, considering how national announcers are so irritating when they try to explain baseball to people who know little about baseball, which is their mode. I'm to the point where the only announcer I found I can listen to is Jon Miller, who also does Giants radio.

On a double play it doesn't matter, it's considered one continuous play, just like a ground ball w/ two out. Unless it wasn't a standard 6-4-3 or 5-4-3 double play, then there would be an issue.

Guillen, wow, really trying to kill the ball; doubles deep off the baggie. Misses a HR by maybe 5-6 feet.

Most excellent, Fox is showing Rusty Kuntz on the mike. Never knew what the guy looked like.

I understand that. If the last out is a fly out or a force out the run isn't going to count even if it has crossed the plate. (On an appeal play there are timing considerations where the run may count, but I digress.) My point was that White Sox fans would be screaming at the team for not scoring with runners on first and third and one out. Similarly, they would be upset about only scoring one run in the third after having two on and one out.

Unfortunately, Perkins is pitching well today, at least through four. I expected the Royals, who have been hitting very well of late, to do more with him the second time thorugh the order. (white Sox fans would be calling for the hitting coach to be fired in a similar situation.) In any case, Meche needs to keep the game close.

2-1 on sac fly

Sacrifice flies can take you out of innings, and even when the run doesn't mean anything, the hitter isn't charged with a time at bat, although I believe (hope?) that run was important. Still, I have never believed a run scoring fly shouldn't count as a time at bat.

Gil Meche is heavily to blame for one of my worst nights ever at the ballpark. The Sox in 2003, I think, were playing the Mariners on a Sunday night. Rain was in the forecast. The Mariners got out to a 5-0 lead behind Meche. I think the Sox came back with a run in the fifth before the rain came and delayed the game for a couple of hours before they told everyone to go home.

Really, Meche owss me.

Bonser pitched only one inning against the Royals two weeks ago and didn't allow anything, but it appears the proactive pitcher handling of Ron Gardenhire has put the Royals back in the game.

The Twins have blown a couple of opportunities to blow the game open. It's discouraging that the Royals didn't score more than one run to tie the game, but they are into the Twins' bullpen, which isn't where the Twins want to be in the middle innings of a tie game.

As I psoted earlier, Meche owes me.

I cannot believe the Royals just scored on a pop up. According to Gameday, it was an infield pop up. (I just saw the replay, and it wan't as bad as Gameday made it sound.)

Every team blows opportunities. White Sox fans think only the white Sox blow opportunities. The Royals today just might be the good team making the Twins pay for their early missed opportunities.

Meche lools like he may be done, which is unfortunate considering the inning started with an error. The top of the lineup is up, and a clutch bullpen performance is needed.

The strong closers on each side effectively shortens the game. Nathan has been pitching better after having troubles, particularly being backed by poor defense. Early this year, Nathan blew a save agaiinst the Royals. Soria has pitched six innings against the Twin this year, giving up no runs and only two hits.

Both teams have blown so many opportunities today. The Twins need to blow at least one more.

I'm sure the Twins had Nathan warming up that inning. There is no reason not to bring him in in the ninth, even down by two runs. The Twins won't face a save situation in this game, and holding the Royals at four is of critical importance to the Twins.

I'm not second-guessing Gardenhire, though. Of course, I've already got an out for the Royals, But I'm hoping that what I see as an obvious move proves something Twins fans wish had been done.
