How did they prevent people from entering multiple times? I'm assuming they just weeded out extras with the same name/address.

Actually pretty simple. They have all the data, so anything with similarities is most likely ignored at entry.

I don't trust the current online drawing system.

In my opinion, it means the Sox sold VERY FEW tickets to non-season ticket holders. Traditionally, there has been some postseason ticket sales at the box office. That has benefitted the organization because that attracts TV cameras and puts the Sox on news broadcasts with cliched shots of fans happily leaving ticket windows with playoff tickets in hand.

Now, why would the Sox pass up such free air time worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?

A possible answer? The Sox are selling very few tickets to non-season ticket holders this time. The last thing the team would want to do is hold a box office sale and then for the media to film an angry mob after only a few fans at the front of the line got tickets.

So now everything is a secret. No one knows how many tickets were sold through the online lottery. Hmmm.

No matter how many tickets were available, I'm not a fan of the online lottery. It discriminates against people who don't have a computer. I'm sure there's plenty of older fans and economically-challenged fans who don't have one.

I think a more fair system would have been to sell most tickets by phone and the rest at the box office.

I'm pretty sure they haven't sold tickets at the box office for a long time now. Besides, how is that going to change how they split up the tickets? Your chances were slim to get them, you had to get lucky. In the ALCS, you have to be even luckier, and the World Series...well go buy a lottery ticket if you win then.

Oh heck no. What's to stop a scalper to round up a hundred homeless guys and have them camp in line or to call in.

It's much better like this. It effectively cuts scalpers out of the picture, at least the non-MLB sanctioned ones...

I'd be really happy if the Sox would take it even a step further and track who's scalping by their e-mail addresses... Future sales then could be denied by the worst offenders.

This garbage of profiting on playoff tickets is why many of us can't (or refuse to pay scalper's prices) to go to playoff games. I'm on the fence as if Season Ticket Holders should be able to do this, since they do make a large commitment to the club.

Your chances were slim to get them, you had to get lucky. In the ALCS, you have to be even luckier, and the World Series...well go buy a lottery ticket if you win then.

Your chances by phone would be even slimmer because non-computer owners would call, but I like the idea that all fans would have a chance. But then if you REALLY wanted tickets, then you could wait at the box office. That system would be the best of both worlds.

But then again, you'd have to actually have tickets to sell to non-season ticket holders. It's pretty clear the Sox took many if not most of the extra tickets and gave season-ticket holders a chance to buy even more than what they were promised under their plan.

It's obviously the organization's perogative to sell tickets they way it wants. The Sox decided to load up season-ticket holders at the expense of other fans. A marketing argument could be made on both sides. Personally, in the end, I find it to be just another step in the trend toward pro sports teams making it harder and harder for an average fan to attend a game unless you're rich.

Where as I find it a way to reward season ticket holders who decided to commit a large amount of money last fall coming off of the miserable 2007 campaign.

I share my full season tickets with a few other people. The "extra" pair I was able to purchase the morning allows more of our ticket group to attend a potential playoff game.

It's been my experience scalpers don't round up a hundred homeless guys. While it's been done to a lesser extent, the percentage is small and in my opinion would be outweighed by giving fans a chance to pay the price of waiting if they wanted tickets badly enough.

I'd just add that it sounds like it's a marketing scam by MLB. Get as many e-mails registered as possible to sell them tickets and assorted crap in 2009 and beyond.

Whatever, they already have my email address, since they sometimes send me special offers and discounts. :dunno:

Honestly the only fair way to do this would be to have the teams just have fans bid on tickets. Its the only way to shut down scalpers, IMO, and if I have to pony up a couple hundred bucks for tickets, I'd feel less like a slimebag if that money went straight to the Sox rather than some douchebag ticket broker.

Again, I don't have a particular problem with what the Sox are doing. I just don't agree with basically shutting out non-season ticket holders by giving season ticket holders even more playoff tickets than was promised.

Just as if I wanted to guarantee playoff tickets, I could have bought season tickets, your group could have guaranteed itself more playoff tickets by buying more season tickets.

The Sox just made a marketing decision to really take care of their most loyal customers at the expense of their lesser ones. Again, I understand it's their perogative to do so.

If the Sox did that then they'd be more like the Cubs, who have been scalping their own fans for years. Such greed is why the country is in such dire straits.

Why would you feel like a slimebag? Professional scalping is legal in Illinois. If you don't like it, contact your state representatives...if they're actually in their office and not at a playoff game on tickets provided by a lobbyist.

I just got 2 for ALDS game 2, section 506. Way up and out there, but in the park. I had an email for a presale for today, I almost didn't see it. At first the password didn't work, you have to pay attention to the capital letters for it to work. Anyway, I'm happy, now I get the fun job of who I am going to take. :D:

The question is what the Sox are using to delete multiple entries from the same person. E-mail address? Name? Address? Phone number? Birth date? All of the above? None of the above?

Name and Billing address after you pay for them, I would guess

TEST White Sox 2008 ALDS Ticket Opportunity

The Key word being "TEST"
Why would so many be rejected?!?!?!
I haven't Given up hope - anyone else?

I agree with you, though my hopes aren't exactly high. It was a definite mistake. There's no way they wanted to send out an e-mail with "TEST" in the subject line. However, I suspect the mistake was someone simply didn't remove "TEST" after testing the e-mail rather then sending out an initial test to everyone.

I'd agree, because I never got a "TEST" message, but I did get a "Congrats" message.

I got my message for STH's almost a week ago. I put a lot of money into this season which was tough with the circumstances of last year. To answer a few questions that I have seen: I think that all the people who got the test message were the ones that were rejected. Each registered user that they got received a unique number. They basically used a random number generator to draw numbers to see who was eligible. I was also in the WS ring raffle and that is basically how they narrowed the field for that. I know that they were going to set aside a certain number of tickets for the STH presale and it wasn't going to be many. They set aside a set of tickets for the Registered user raffle or Lotto. Once they are gone, I believe they are gone in this case.

This was done in the hopes of creating a fair and equitable system. The extra's that I got are going to go toward friends who were also shut out in 2005.

Well got rejected myself...Back in 2005 I was able to get game 5 ALDS tickets and game 7 ALCS tickets, which never were played, but did scalp, for face no less, for game 1 of the ALCS when a bunch of brokers were caught eating tickets after the Yankees were eliminated. Of course, everyone heard of this for game 2 and the market literally quadrupled overnight.

The fact that there is one less potential home game than in 2005 (I'm assuming they aren't selling for a third home game even though I guess that still is mathematically possible) and there are a ton more season ticket holders now, there just are a significantly lower number of tickets availble. I'll likely still head down to Bridgeport to watch the games at a local establishment....was a great time back in 2005.

I've been to the last 4 Bears playoff games at Soldier Field dating back to the Jim Miller/Hugh Douglass Eaglies game and including the NFC Championship, so I guess I can tell myself that to deal with this disappointment.

Well. I am 0-3 with a pending AB. Nothing from mom, dad, and me but my brother has yet to receive an e-mail so I am probably holding out false hope. Time to scalp, scalp, scalp. Looking for two tickets to one ALDS game, two tickets to one ALCS game, and two tickets to any WS game.

Probably looking at something of $100/ticket for the ALDS, $200/ticket for ALCS, and who knows what $600-$1000/ticket to WS.

Considering I got two tickets for the Cubs NLDS game two and am hoping to sell them for a total of around $500-$600 profit I have some spending money. But this may be a tough October on the budget regardless.

I know everyone wanted to know my financial situation. It sucks being a 21 year old in school with two part time jobs.

I had to look in my junk mail folder on my work email. The normal email I have on file with MLB.com is my personal and it wasn't until I read that people were getting it this morning that I checked my junk mail folder. Boy am I glad I did. Sorry to the rest of you but, to be honest I feel like even if I get on as fast as possible there are still going to be no tickets.

I got picked, and my wife went in right at 10:00 this morning and got me 2 for Home Game 1 in 530, row 20. It was supposed to allow 4 tickets, but for some reason didn't. I just went in now and ordered another 2 in 556 row 20. So, seems like they saved some all around the upper deck, but really high up.

At about 10:05 they fixed it to allow 4 tickets together. I did several searches and I don't think they had anything below row 18 or 19 for this presale.

The only way I could see this happening is if the tickets are not sold out by the time all these presales and lotteries are done with.
