My 2nd favorite team is going to the playoffs!

What a story they've been!

:bandance:

If it isn't meant to be for the Sox, it would sure be easy to root for the Rays.

I've been thinking this way too but I wonder if I'll really feel that way if we were to lose to them in the divisional series.

only thing I don't like about them is Evan Longoria most likely beating out TCM for the ROY award

Good for them! I saw a stat today that they were 70-91 last season; unbelievable how far they've come in just a year! If the Sox are eliminated before Tampa Bay, I'm totally rooting for the Rays.

I'd cheer for the Rays unless they are up against us. My other second team, the Brewers, choked again. Some pretty sad Brew Crew fans up here.

Congrats Rays. I will be cheering for you and the White Sox since my team went from a playoff contender last year to losing 100 games this year. :whiner::whiner:

Wait, the Rays competed with the Red Sox and the Yanks? Impossible, I refuse to believe it.

The Red Sox can still win the A.L. East, all the Rays did today was ensure that if they don't win the division they will win the Wild Card.

Yes. Often when a team clinches, they lose the next day. White Sox fans can only hope that because the Rays didn't clinch the division title, they still have some motivation to win.

For most teams, making the postseason is anticlimax. Three of the four frontrunners for the two ALDS series have won the World Series in this decade. Winning the division isn't even as big a deal as it used to be. Just making the postseason won't mean to the other teams that will make it from the American League as it does for the Rays.

The Rays really surprised me. I don't like them at all, but I dislike them less than I do the Yankees and Red Sox (and Angels ad Twins).

The Rays were an MLB-worst 66-96 last year. They are only the second team in MLB history to make the playoffs the year after having that dubious distinction. The 1991 Braves also did it.

Oh yeah, I'll be pulling for the Rays except when they play the White Sox.

Yep, the Rays are my second choice team this postseason. If they beat us, the Go Rays, Go.

People thought U I was nuts when I said they were going to have a good team this year during spring training.

I didn't think they'd be this good though.

I didn't see it coming, hell I don't if there were really many people who could have seen it.

I keep waiting for the KC Royals and at the start I thought it was going happen.

Congrats, I hope they can fill the place now.

I agree with others that if the Sox can't win it all, I hope the Rays do.

Hopefully we won't have to find out, because the White Sox will have moped the floor with them on their way to another title. However, I'm sure any White Sox fan would prefer the Rays over the Red Sox or Angels.

And if Cleveland and Detroit didn't epically tank, we probably would have. I don't mind being wrong, but I'm less wrong about the Sox than I was about those other teams. This team has a lot of the problems I thought they would. Just no competition.

Let it go, man. Despite overwhelming evidence that most people here on WSI predicted a season similar to the one Sox is having now, Munch refuses to believe it's anything other than luck.

Congratulations to the Tampa Rays. It's about time their consistent drafting at the top has paid off. It will be interesting in the next 2-3 years to see how many of their young stars they will retain.

I would have driven up to Baltimore to see them clinch today [DH] or tomorrow, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

That's what I'm saying. It's not that we're that good, it's that they're that bad. We've had more than our fair share of struggles this year.

Luck of the division, certainly. The Yankees are a better team, and they'll be sitting out. But I have no qualm with that. I'd rather be lucky than a loser.

Look at the 2006 Sox - won 90 games and missed the playoffs.

It happens...

The only way I will root for the Rays, is if it is against the Redsox. Too many people on the Rays bandwagon already. The N.L. team I will be rooting for is probably The Dodgers or Phillies.

Munch, you mind being wrong so much you invent delusions to protect yourself from cognitive dissonance. It was actually cruel of me to try to force reality upon you. I apologize.

Reality is we have an average pitching staff, an average bullpen, and a one dimensional offense. The only thing we do well is play infield defense, but our outfield defense might be the worst in baseball. And despite that, we're going to win our division. I'm not going to delude myself into believing we're some great team when in reality we'd have trouble winning 80 games in any other division in baseball.

This is not a complaint. But I'm not a fool, and it's obvious why we're here. Even the Sox players have made comments about how this team doesn't feel like a winner. We've basically been given every opportunity for the division, the worst in baseball, and we'll barely eek it out.

My point exactly. I'd much rather be on this side of it. That 2006 team was leaps and bounds better. But I'd much rather be this team.
