View Full Version : What's your playoff rotation

I've been thinking about this, looking at different splits (just basic numbers). As of right now, it looks like there's a strong possibility of starting in a dome. White Sox/Tampa, not likely to be primetime, so also the possibility of a couple day games. Now, to the splits:

Danks- No dropoff on the road, very strong in domes, and during the day, most likely my #1, would have no problem bringing him back for a road game 5

Floyd- Also not a big dropoff on the road, showed some more great character at Yankee Stadium. Slightly better at night. Only problem, not as good #s in domes, but the good road numbers makes me like him at #2

Buehrle- The key in his stats is that he has been terrible during the day in his starts, so I'd definitely want him starting a night game. Also, he has been much better at home (though some better road starts recently), right now, I'd want him as 3 or 4 depending on game time.

Vazquez- I'm never really sure what to expect from Javy. Better at home, better during the day (maybe a 3 or 4 depending on game time again). His wildcard though, he has real good numbers this year in domes and on turf. I don't trust him to start over Danks/Floyd, but I think if needed, he could maybe be a strong reliever in a Game 5 (you never know when you'll need innings, and of course, we know what's been going on with our pen)

Anyways, this would most likely be my order of preference, with some exceptions depending on game times. I know it might not matter at all if Ozzie already set the rotation up and it all comes out based on the rest he set up, but I think it's just interesting to look at as one of the fun things when you're fighting for a playoff spot, just interested in everyone's preference

1. Floyd
2. Danks
3. Buehrle
4. Vazquez

I'd put Richard in the bullpen for long relief.

I hope we have the luxury to set our playoff rotation instead of needing 162 to close it out.

Hell - I hope we close it out.

We won't...No need for a 5th in the post season - in particular not for Lance. Not knocking him - he's just not going to be in a rotation in the post season at this point in his career.

I think that should be the way to go but in the first 5 game series you usually only use 3 starters. I doubt the sox would go with Danks over Vazquez even though I believe that would be our best option.

1. Gavin
2. Buehrle
3. Javy
4. Danks --- he can't pitch more than 6 innings, the last thing I need to see in a play off game is our sucky middle relief.

My rotation for the Rays, since that's where things stand today:
Buehrle
Vazquez
Danks
Floyd

Tampa vs LHP 24-23, vs RHP 68-39. So I want Mark for Gm 1 and 5 (if needed), and I want my vets on the road, young guys at home.

Floyd because he deserves it and has been the best this season. Buehrle #2 based on his potential, experience, and to break up he and Danks.

Javy #3 to break up Danks and Buehrle and hopefully the win.

Danks #4 to give him the rest he seems to need lately, and to be the stopper in case a stopper is needed. He to me was the best pitcher this year til his arm went flat, and would deserve #1 if he didn't seem so fatigued. He'll be great insurance and a great #1 in the second series if the Sox can sweep the first round.

- Gavin may deserve it more, but MB's playoff experience is valuable for game 1.
- You get the L,R,L,R rotation.
- If Danks is more efficient early, he can go more than 6 innings.
- Javy is the one I trust the least right now.

Buehrle is obviously #1; Danks & Floyd flip flop 2/3 depending on whether Game 2 is a home or road game; I like Floyd on the road because I think he's a little more mentally tough than Danks at this point. Jazquez #4.

If Danks could get a little more run support, as well as having the bullpen actually effectively back him up, I'd think he would be a little more mentally tough, actually. Floyd seems far more relaxed, and I think that a big part of that is because he does get some run support. Meanwhile, Danks has had to pitch virtually flawless. If he got an ounce of run support in a bunch of his games, as well as if the bullpen wouldn't constantly piss away his games, I do think that he'd have about as many wins as Floyd.

I agree, don't take my post as attacking John, I like him and trust him, I just trust Gavin more at this point. He's a few years older and I think a bit better option at this point (that epic at bat when he struck out the Pornstache sticks in my mind).

Oh, I agree, as you can see with the rotation I would set up near the top of this thread. Floyd has truly matured this season, and it seems that any game situation does not fluster him for the most part; but, you really have to feel bad for Danks. Hopefully he won't have to deal with this next year.

I'll take any rotation at all as long as we get in, but

1.Buehrle
2.Floyd
3.Vazquez
4.Danks

would be my preference.

That way we can go lefty-lefty going from the 4 to the 1 spot. I guess I'm the only person that thinks Vazquez will really do great in the playoffs...
