The good news is we're only 4,000 or so down from this time last year:

Why are the Sox up 4,000 total fans this season? Because Rob Gallas moved Dog Day up from August to Apri, of course.

"That doesn't even include the 500 dogs we're up this year. Who says I'm not a marketing genius?"

That's right, we're up 4000+ fans.
These numbers are through May 12. In '01 the Sox had 20 home games by the 12th of May...this year only 16. So the numbers are actually even a little better than what the misleading chart reflects.

If this is true then our attendance is up by about 4000 per game, not in total.
2001 by May 12: 15,234 per
2002 by May 12: 19,293 per

Don't make me go look at that chart again--it confused me the first time (obviously). Are we up 4,000 on the year or per game?

What I think people are saying is that the chart says we're up by 4,000 overall. However, we've played 4 fewer games at home (16 vs 20). So, if you work out the per game average, we're coming out 4,000 ahead per game as well. Confusing, yes.

We're up 4,000 on a base of just over 300,000 total attendance year-to-date.
That's less than 2 percent ahead of last year. Call me crazy, but I'm expecting KW to state that isn't enough for us to buy another pitcher.
