Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I used the "search" function and didn't see anything about it.

Does anyone know when MLB will do the coin flip to determine where a potential one game playoff with Minn would be played? I was thinking that those were usually done in early Sep.

Not that its mattered in the past, but it seems like we always lose that damn coin flip. No idea when it is though.

I cringe at the thought of a game up there determining the season.
There's always some weird play that happens in that joint that sets us up for a crap inning.

It isn't based on who won the season series?

It isn't based on who won the season series?

Yeah, but it's possible the season series will be tied.

Yeah, I think it's usually done in the first week of September. So probably soon.

The only way that will come into play is if the Sox and Twins are tied at the end of the season and one team gets the division championship and the other gets the wild card.

If they are tied at the end of the season and Boston has the wild card, then there will be a one-game playoff. The coin flip will determine the location of that one-game playoff.

If the Sox, Twins and Boston are all tied at the end of the season, then it gets messy.

Yeah, but it's possible the season series will be tied.

No it's not. We play them 19 times.

Nope, they just flip a coin.

Nope. We play them 18 times and if the Sox take 1 one 3 the last week, season series will be tied 9-9

18 games against each division opponent. Used to be 19.

I guess that's what I get for using the schedule from the Cubune's website.

I was counting the ppd game from 4/10.

This season could very well come down to Game 163 to decide it. Here is hoping that if it does, it is played at US Cellular Field. FoulTerritory is correct though, it always seems like we lose these damn coin flips. I think we lost every coin flip scenario with the Tigers and Twins in 2006.

They did coin flips last year on September 7--that was a Friday, so maybe tomorrow.

Season series only matters if both teams are in playoffs. That happened in 2005 to Boston and NYY. Yankees won the series 10-9 so they were awarded the AL East and Boston was the WC and had to play the White Sox.

I can't see the WC coming from the Central now as Boston caught fire the past 3 weeks.

Boston has a shot at catching them but they have to win a game or two at The Trop. But Tampa has an 8 game lead on the Twins so they should be in no matter what. Of course the 2007 Mets showed you can blow everything.

The Central now comes down to who plays the best on the road and the Twins appear to have an easier schedule but the games have to be played. The White Sox need to win at least 2 in The Bronx and then at least one in Minneapolis.

With how big home field has been this year, I hate the idea of a coin flip determining this. I would start with H2H Season series winner, then maybe better record against division, maybe a coin flip as the last resort

The Twins lineup is full of rookies and I just cant believe they will keep up playing good. There last round trip proves that.

No kidding. This has been a very uncomfortable feeling the past month, seeing them unable to put any distance between themselves and Minnesota when given the chance. There are only 16 more games left...Let's do this thing, Sox!

White Sox win today's coin flip, will play at home vs. Minnesota if season ends in a tie. This would be a one game play-off. Cubs lose their flip with Milwaukee.

:D:

I know people think they're going bad when they are rooting hard for a coin flip.

No doubt it's a close race. No doubt Twins fans have to feel bad to see their team head off for another long roadtrip after splitting a six-game homestand against two losing team, now with the promise that if the division finishes in a tie, they have to play in a place where they won two of nine games this year, instead of a place where they have won five of six with three remaining.

16 games to go. A 30 pack of beer in the fridge, new batteries in the remote....sox are on a mission from god and I am right there with them.

Any idea why the sox weren't included in the wild card flip? If MN was included, I don't see why we wouldn't be. The NL they seemed to include everyone who was even slightly close.

Technically, it's possible, however unlikely, for the White Sox to end up tied with the Red Sox, Rays, Blue Jays and Twins, with to of those teams being crowned as division winners and one getting the wild card.

That would be interesting.

I think there should be a McDonalds race to determine the scenario. If McGriddles win, we lose, if Fries win we get the game, if Big Mac wins then we go to a coin flip!

No they have a family reunion and have a raffle to see which family member of the executives will get drafted that year.

WEEI has been discussing why Boston flipped with the Twins and not the White Sox and nobody at MLB has given an answer.

All teams within 5 1/2 games were supposed to included and Chicago certainly qualifies using that standard.
