View Full Version : It's sad to see how far Scott Podsednik has fallen..

I just watched some highlights of the Sox 05 playoff games, on Whitesox.com, and thought of this. Pods was always a class act, and helped us win a world series in 05. I would love to see him stay healthy, and have a good run again.

I fail to see "how far he has fallen". He may not be an everday player, but he's still on a major league roster. He seems to be injury prone, so maybe the Sox caught lightning in a bottle in 2005. It may not be in the cards for him to be a 150 game per year superstar, but he sure made one hell of an impact in 2005. He had a decent year in 2006 as well.

I'm sure he is happy with his career. Once he lost a step he was not half as valuable as he once was.

That's what usually happens to white-boy speedsters who can't hit or get on base with any great frequency.

I was referring to the other poster who said that Podsednik became half as valuable when he lost a step, I don't know how I could have been any more clear what with the quote and all but...sorry...for...the...confusion?

1. When he is healthy, which admittedly is not often, Scotty is a pretty good hitter. He walks a bit too.

2. What the hell does race have to do with the fact that speed guys are not as valuable once they have leg/groin/foot injuries. Would Carlos Gomez still be a good prospect if he suddenly had a litany of leg injuries just because he's not a white guy? Seriously, dude what the ****?

I don't get what his being white has anything to do with his diminishing speed or tendency to get injured.

Pods is being used by Colo. exactly as he should: as a 4th OF. Maybe that will keep him healthy enough to sustain a few more years in MLB.

Watch this turn into a 3-page argument because of a single word in a single post that probably could've been omitted...

Surely there would have been a picture if this ever happened.

If you take out "white-boy", I think Jerry Owens.

I was simply implying that, at present, Scott Podsednik is a Caucasian, nothing more. It had nothing to do with his abilities as a player, just a fact about him.

BTW, Pods' BB v. K numbers for the 4 seasons he has appeared in 100+ games, along with his League rank in BB/K that year:

2003: 56 BB's, 91 K's, 38th
2004: 58, 105, 51st
2005: 47, 75, 33rd
2006: 54, 96, 43rd

When you say "a bit" you surely must mean "a bit".

You tried to make a joke, and it ended up being very lame, incredibly unfunny, and borderline offensive. Just deal with it.

At present? You mean he can switch?
We are all aware of his race and since it has nothing to do with his abilities as a a player, then why even bring it up?

And its not the first time you bring up race:

And what the hell is your point? Do you think I'm racist against Scott Podsednik because he is white? You think I'm racist period? Give me a break. It happened like double m said, I made a snide remark that was supposed to be funny that was really lame and tried to cover it up, ok? I'm sorry.

But the fact remains that Pods doesn't walk all that much compared to how many times he strikes out and isn't that strong of a hitter, so when his speed starts to decline, he loses way more value than a Carl Crawford will when he starts to decline in speed.

All right, all right, knock it off. Was Lefty's comment tasteless? Yes. But he manned up, admitted it was a poor attempt at humor, so let's just move on, please. I'm not trying to defend him, but I respect that he had the balls to admit it was stupid.

Everyone can read and come to their own conclusions, but there's no need to keep piling it on in this thread.

I think he is and always been a speedy, low power, not so good defensive player who had two very good years in his career. The White Sox got one of them, and it was incredibly valuable to the team. He terrorized opposing pitchers/catchers on the bases by distracting the hell out of them. Excellent guy to have leading off.

not to mention that his abilities, get on base and run and chase down balls in the wide open Coors OF is essentially duplicated by Willy Taveras the incumbent

Get on base? How? In his last full season (2006) Podsednik had an OBP of .330, then .299 and .323 (this season). I don't know how familiar some might be with OBP, but all those numbers are below average. Not to mention he has never broken the 60+ BB barrier in his career, while striking out an averge of 95 times a year. He's really not getting on base all that often.

Have you ever noticed that if you are typing something into Google and you have a certain setting on, a little drop-bar will come down with recommended searches? Well try typing in Scott Podsednik and keep an eye out for what comes up.

Saturday night at the game I had literally commented not 30 minutes before how I hadn't seen Scotty P in a game in a while. Low and behold, guess who comes in to pinch hit? It was awesome (even if he didn't stay on base).

I can't be mad at Willy T though. He is having a phenomenal season.

its aweful that he's fallen, but let us remember a couple things

he WON a WS.
He had a WALKOFF homerun in a WS
he's not going to be broke anytime soon.
as said before, his wife.
and from what i've seen of him, and heard of him, he's a class act who will never be called an ass or be hated.

All in all, sucks that he's not the 05 player, but his life isn't terrible either.

At least Scott Podsednik is first and Scott's wife is second.
