Ramirez is one Hell of a good ball player, and Contreras and El Duque have had very good seasons over the past 10 years. How good are the top of the line Cuban players? How many ball players have entered MLB in the past 15 years, and what's their track record?

Wasn't there a player in Cuba represented by the same agent as Jose and Alexei? I thought I read about him in the first half and we were one of a handful of teams after him. Whatever happened to him.

Well if you go back to the beginning of the season most of the people would tell you here that Alexi is going to suck because the Cuban League is like low A ball in the States.

How do they get into the US?

I'm not sure if this is where to ask that but...

Does anyone know what the laws are for them living/playing here...and when we go to canada why was TCM not allowed to cross? Are they connected in anyway?

A lot of them recently have been going to the Dominican Republic and then coming here.

The way it works they usually get protection from either Mexico or the Dominican and then become citizens from either country. Then they apply for a work visa and passport to be able to play in the U.S.

I believe that this way they are considered international free agents; if they applied for US citizenship, they would be eligible for the draft (I think this is what happened to that Viciedo guy).

Do you know what would happen to this guy if he ever said he would attemp to play in the U.S. El Duque was banned from ever playing in CUBA because they thought he had something to do with Livan leaving CUBA.
That's why he had no other choice but to flee CUBA and come to the United States and play. At the time he was banned from Cuban baseball he was the best player they had.

In addition, if a Cuban refugee reaches US shores, he is granted amnesty. However, if picked up on the water, he is sent packing.
