He's still capable of throwing a good game. He would get killed in the AL, but it's a good move by the Dodgers. That's also the second time he's been traded to LA.

Good 4/5th starter in the reg. season, borderline starter in the playoffs. And you're right - he'd be absolute roadkill in the AL.

I thought I heard he would only consider the Dodgers for a trade, so even if we wanted him it probably wouldn't have happened.

I think he said the only team he would accept a trade to was Los Angeles. Dude's got a nice 3.99 ERA, but his home/road splits are very telling (http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/psplit.cgi?n1=maddugr01&year=2008#locat-hmvis)...
Home: 14 G, 3-4, 86 IP, 2.62 ERA, 71 H, 32 R, 25 ER, 13 BB, 42 K
Road: 12 G, 3-5, 67.1 IP, 5.75 ERA, 90 H, 48 R, 43 ER, 13 BB, 38 K

He's roadkill away from cavernous PETCO Park.

Dodger Stadium is pretty cavernous itself. He'll be fine.
