I wonder which team will claim him... He would be huge for the Sox

I'm surprised to see this, I wonder what the reason is.

Too much money owed, perhaps?

I don't think we need another aged outfielder.

Most players are put on waivers in August. Doesn't mean anything.

A lot of big names go on waivers, and the asking price is ridiculous. I'm assuming this is nothing.

I'm sure the Jays would be happy to see him and the 125.5 million they owe him over the next 6 years move elsewhere. His contract is absurdly backloaded. He made $500,000 this year, makes 1.5 million next year, 12.5 million in 2010, and then between 21-23 million every year after. Plus he's owed 8.5 million a year in signing bonus in 2009 and 2010.

So you're saying he's going to the Cubs.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Are we going to have one of these for every player put on waivers? MANY players are waived in August EVERY season - stars and scrubs. Silly.

Would it be WSI without them? :D:

They don't have a need in the outfield after the numbers that Jim Edmonds has put up. Despite Fukudome struggling, their outfield looks like the least of their concerns.

They need bullpen help, just like the rest of MLB, except for the Angels.

I was actually just making a stupid joke about the Cubs and backloaded contracts.

Just because someone is put on waivers doesn't mean a thing....they can be pulled back off...

That's the kind of deal I was talking about when I was saying that it could handcuff an organization with a fixed budget. Yeah, it's great you get to save money now and potentially can sock away money now to pay him later, but still it will probably handcuff the team in it's spending at least some.

If you want to get rid of him, you're also going to eat more of that contract than you want, unless you find someone dumb enough to take a lot of it off your hands.

Aubrey huff is on waivers too, I wouldn't mind if the asking price is reasonable. Huff can play 3rd or 1st. Is Fields still on the bench or did he get sent down? Cause he needs to be playing everyday at AAA.

I would definitely consider Huff. He hasn't played there much this season, but it's his dominant position historically.

Griffey for Wells (half teal)

I bet his asking price would be pretty high. He is putting together an awesome season stat wise and I'm sure his contract isn't very big.

he is only 29

That means Kenny will get him at the July 31st deadline for a couple of good prospects - in 2015.
