If the Sox can keep winning and winning series they will be in good shape as the Twins have a rough schedule of 24/30 games on the road. They are not all that tough away from their dome and this is the Sox prime time to put some pasture in between them.

Nice to get the win today.

These are the dog days. The starting pitchers aren't lasting as long; the bullpen is getting used up; injuries are decimating the roster.

Game effort by the Sox.
Floyd was getting the ball too high in the first couple of innings, but that first inning was still basic unlucky BS-one bad pitch that the hitter was waiting for and an unlucky HR. Good bounceback.

It's probably true or they wouldn't have reported it, although baseball announcers sometimes do make stupid mistakes. It probably came from the pregame press notes the White Sox put out.

Of course, there are a lot of home runs hit in the Cell. But I remember the 1972 season with a 20-year-old Terry Forster coming out of the bullpen with a 21-year-old Rich Gossage. Between them, they gave up only two home runs, both by Gossage on the road.

Gutsy performance overall -- would've been easy to cave in at several points. Boston fans probably feel like it's a pretty scabby win. And who cares?

TCM turned a couple of key DPs. The one that went simply 4-3 was my favorite.

Let's close out a 3-1 series tomorrow night.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I thought Ozzie did a great job of managing the bullpen today (Dotel especially made Ozzie look good). I was nervous about the outcome of this game, (Thornton is wild of late) just because the Red Sox always seem to play well against us.

The offense was oustanding again today and Bobby did his job. Very happy about this White Sox winner! :D:

It seemed like all of the momentum was going Boston's way at the end of the game but that DP by Dotel was CLUTCH and took the wind right out of their sails. And Bobby has really gotten back into his groove. It was great to see a 1-2-3 to end it.

I agree, but the Sox have been doing this all year long - responding to big moments with guts and fury. No matter the fan base, the Sox themselves show no quit.

As hard as the bullpen has been worked recently, that was a great effort. TCQ, JD and JT go deep (just like we wrote the script), one super timely DP and hand the ball to Bobby.

The Sox persevered against the World Champs, so you take it anyway you get it. Also, it's been said many times before, and it needs to be said again: Uribe's defense has been sparkling. I think we're 2-3 games back if Fields was at 3rd this whole time.

Very true. I've never been a huge Fields fan. Those 23 HRs were outweighed by his defense and strikeouts. 2007 was so bad we were clinging to any positive we could find.

There are so many ifs, both in seasons with success and seasons without. For example, what if the Sox had traded Crede, as many at WSI thougth they would and many thought they should? How long would it have taken Uribe to replace Fields as the fulltime third baseman? Were Uribe to get hurt, as he did, where would the White Sox (or Dodgers) be with Ozuna playing regularly in home pinstripes? Would the Sox have gone out looking for someone else to play third?

Fortunately, things have worked out OK so far with the baseball people making personnel decisions.

Something funny occurred to me while watching Alexei calmly turn that clutch DP (can't remember the inning). Floyd jumped for it, Cabrera was running over like his hair was on fire, and Alexei's just chillin' over at second to make the play.

One thing that bothers me about the veteran Sox players is the fact that they get themselves so worked up all the time. When things are going well, they're fine, but when a game is tough and the other team is making a move, it seems like our vets will almost outthink themselves. Meanwhile, Alexei Ramirez just plays the game like it's some pickup game on a sandlot, and he EXCELS at it.

I always said that a good team has to have a couple of players "dumb" enough to not get frazzled when the game gets crazy. Alexei has an obvious mind for baseball, but he is young enough in his MLB career that he just goes out there and plays, regardless of the pressure involved. Jenks in '05 is another great example of this kind of player. While players like Konerko freak out over every AB, Ramirez just does his thing. It's refreshing to watch.

Every win is a big,big deal now. They need about 27 more wins, I figure, to make the playoffs.

Thank the good lord that Dotel got that double play ball.
Our bombers came thru just enough to get us this win but we do leave so many stranded at third. JD just cannot get it done with man on third ,one out this year. But hard to complain when he is doing everything else so well.

Dotel was the biggest reason for today's win, cleaning up that mess in the seventh and working an easy eighth to get the ball to Jenks.

I was in section 160, and I thought the crowd was going to be much much worse than it was, judging from what I've heard about these series. I was happily surprised at the well behaved crowd.

It was a fun game to be at, albeit nerve wracking during a few of the later innings. It was my first time sitting in the outfield, and we were only a couple of rows back from the TCQ home run.

I was in 113 and everything was fantastic. There were maybe four Red Sox fans around me- three in my row and one a couple rows in front of me. All of them were well-behaved and none sat there with a complex like they were the best fans ever put on earth. However, I did see three Red Cub fans all decked out in their Red Sox shirts and blue Cub hat outside Gate 5 before I even got into the ballpark. When I saw that, I thought today would be a nightmare just like last year, but fortunately I was wrong.

Oh... and when we were leaving the ballpark, a girl asked a guy how much he wanted for his Swisher bobblehead because she was late getting to the ballpark. You snooze, you lose, girlie!

Maybe - maybe not. By many accounts - Jon was not less interested in returning here. He was destined for the west coast.

Either way - it isn't time to worry about what could have been, or what might be next year. We are locked in a dogfight for a post season spot. Every game is important. IF KW and OG think Washburn is better than what we have, they should do it - provided it won't bury our future which this looks like it wouldn't do.

It seemed like the crowd was pretty well-behaved today.
Yeah they were. I was up in the 500 level and they cheer for their team but they weren't as rowdy as I expected them to be. It was an all around good experience.

Like one columnist in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer wrote: "The best way to shut them up...WIN!" And, the Sox are doing just that.

Pretty much sums up the season so far...rely on the long ball...many chances to put it away...and dancing a fine line between winning and losing with our pitching....

Did just enough to win it...great job by Octavio and Bobby to put this one away....

Heres to a half game lead! :gulp:

If it is, then I was there to see the effing thing when he was brought in for a 2 inning save. Was it in '06?

No, it was last year against the Marlins.

There's a reason Washburn cleared waivers. He's due $12 million a year. Kenny could have re-signed Jon Garland for less than that. It would be a desperately insane move to make a trade for Washburn.

What makes you think we'll pick up the entire salary?

KW does have a knack for getting the other party to contribute a nice portion of salary.

An ugly win, but a good one. I do worry about this team being unable to manufacture runs. The game should have been put away much earlier, but whatever. A win is a win! :D:

Just like Buehrle was destined for the Cardinals?

Good win yesterday! Thome's homer was almost on the concourse! Dotel is looking good again and hopefully he keeps us the good work. Gavin was rocky at first but settled down, so that's a good sign. Just a good win all around! Oh, and how about that bunt AJ laid down? :D: We're back in 1st and let's go get 'em again tonight boys!

I said I'd be happy with a split in this series...well, considering Beckett has been terrible lately and Danks is going, I'd expect us to be in the game tonight and most likely take the series from Boston.
