What a difference a year makes. Makes me wonder a little about a waiver trade involving an infielder.

Well, the Getz era is starting a little early. I figured he was the prime candidate to be the backup utility infielder next year, but he's needed now.

He should do well; he's played all over the infield in Charlotte and has hit for average, stolen some bases, and hit for some power all year.

That said, I still don't see him getting much playing time.

I haven't seen the kid play, but in my dreams he's the kind of scrappy player that the Twins seem to have in endless supply. At least, since Buddy Bell arrived, evaluation of our own minor-league talent seems to have improved somewhat, so I have some hope that Getz isn't just the latest POS dressed up long enough to inflate his still-limited trade value.

He did play in the Future's game. Unfortunately, we already have a 2B.

He's the new Pablo. He'll play around the infield and not play anything particularly well, but get the job done when he needs to.

Can Cabrera play 3rd?

I don't think that's fair to Getz's glove. He's average or a tick above at 2b because he has very good hands. At short he's limited by his arm, but comparing him to Ozuna who was brutal at every position isn't fair.

Now with a bat in his hands, Ozuna is a darn good player. I just hope Getz can get some of the big hits Pablo used to get with regularity.

Why exactly would we move the 300 hitting 2nd baseman out for the minor league guy who hits in the Il. Getz is the utility guy. Lets hope he can play 2nd, SS and 3rd.

Well, I wasn't comparing him to Pablo in every facet...just saying that's the role he's going to fill. But still, I can't say I'm excited to see him at 3B, and he was moved from SS to 2B for a reason.

I think what he brings to the plate may actually be better than Pablo. Getz will work the count and wait for his pitch, while everything was Pablo's pitch...which is going to help you more times than not when trying to get that 'big hit.'

I've liked the way Uribe's played third base. I don't see Getz getting a lot of time.

Looks like Fields is becoming a man without a country. Too bad, I liked him.

I think the .300 2nd baseman the OP was referring to was Alexei.

I think moving Cabrera to 3B implied Alexei would be moving to SS, Getz inserted at 2B, and everybody's new best friend, Fat Juan, would be benched again.

I referenced the wrong guy when he made his statement. However its still moving a vet

Can Cabrera play 3rd? Was his comment.

To insert a AAA player. I would rather keep Ramirez and Cabrera in their respective positions and play Getz as a utility guy. Leaving the glove Uribe who can't hit but can catch at 3rd for the time being.

If you're going to move somebody, move a vet.
Uribe is the utility player here....trying to figure out a way to get him out of the lineup on a regular basis.

Well, I wouldn't spend too much time trying to figure it, because he'll be starting at 3B until (if?) Crede gets healthy.

Fields will be getting a country soon enough. Currently, the Sox are slated to lose the following position players in the offseason: Crede, Cabrera, Uribe, Griffey, Hall, and probably Thome.

There are at bats to be had. He just has to convince Ozzie he'll catch the ball and won't strike out 1 out of every 3 ab's

If Fields is our starting 3rd baseman in 2009..back up the truck and start the rebuilding process. He's made zero progress defensively this season while hitting in the .240's and striking out a ton at AAA.

Fields was sent down because Uribe's been playing stellar defense at 3b and looks to have won the position until Crede comes back. That made Fields a bench player who can only play one position, which makes him a huge liability.

Getz is only on the team right now because he's a more versatile back-up infielder than Fields. I don't see Getz starting regularly, and Cabrera won't be playing 3b.

Getz is the perfect Pablo Ozuna for this team. Too bad we got rid of Pablo a bit too early.

Crede must be close to coming back... and it must be Wise or another OF going down or to the DL.

I don't believe Getz has much if any 3B experience so we are surely not rolling w/ Juan being our only option at third... right??? :?:

Crede recently had another set-back taking an epideral injection....those are usually a last resort and they usually will shut you down if you don't respond to the 2nd or 3rd one....I'm not counting on Crede the rest of the year...if we get him back it's a luxury.

Why are so many people eager to remove our Gold Glove 3B for a guy that has played less than 10 games there at the major league level in the middle of pennant race?

I saw him play 3rd for Charlotte on Saturday. It's not a lot to go by, but his arm doesn't look strong; he barely threw out the runners on some fairly routine plays, and his throws had kind of a tailing motion. Also, he didn't make a play on a fair ball over his head down the line -- ball fell just beyond his reach. It should've been the shortstop's play, but at least Getz got there first. That was his toughest chance of the day.

He's played several positions for the Knights this year, but I don't know where to find minor league fielding stats.

There was an idea once upon a time to try Fields out in left, but obviously that's not going to happen now. His only chance to stay with the Sox is if we lose Crede, and even then that's tenuous.

Obviously someone didn't see Pablo boot a grounder in the 9th yesterday that allowed the Giants to score the winning run!

If it comes to that..Getz only plays 3rd if Uribe gets injured and has to be removed from the game. Fields will then be called up for the following game.

Hmmm... Yes, Berroa was at SS for LA in the 9th; I guess either I misheard their announcer or he got confused, since I could have sworn I heard "Ozuna."

Anyways, Pablo's hitting a buck-forty-three in the Senior Circuit, which I don't believe even translates to .100 in the American League.

No, he said Berroa. Pablo wasn't a big loss. Getz or even Bourgeois (who I believe can play INF and OF) are similar type of players.
