Caught it on ESPN. One of the more interesting things that happened was when for some reason, Skip and Chip were doing a Braves game in Chicago on TBS. I bounced between them and WGN comparing the Carays. Skip's voice wasn't quite as raspy as Harry's and Chip had no raspat all.

I did, too. I was actually just listening to a home run call of his that I liked. It's Mark Teixeira's first home run as an Atlanta Brave, from August 1, 2007. You can find it at the Braves official web-site.

It's always sad to lose someone who's done so much for baseball. Skip Caray will be missed.

:o:

Condolences to Chip, Dutchie, and the rest of the Caray family. Reading through the linked article, it said that Chip was working the Angels-Yankees game on TBS when he learned about his father.

He was one of my favorite announcers - as mild mannered as they got.

RIP

I always enjoyed Skip's work on TBS with the Braves when he was paired with Don Sutton and/or Pete Van Wieren. I also liked when he would make his smartass comments when reading some of the promos for upcoming shows and movies on TBS that were "following Braves baseball."

Thanks, Mr. Caray. RIP, sir.

Totally unlike his dad or son, had a mild-mannered delivery and a subtle, wicked sense of humor. Knew his game, whether it was baseball or basketball. (That part was like Harry.) RIP

Was he the Brave announcer that had the voice that appears everyone has their own form of an imitation of?

Yep. John Rooney was fond of imitating him whenever Ed Farmer would read the Braves score. "Chipperrrr Joones!"

I always enjoyed Skip's work on TBS with the Braves when he was paired with Don Sutton and/or Pete Van Wieren.

I also enjoyed watching Braves games on TBS in the late 80s when we first got cable, just before they became a really good team. Skip was a talented guy and so much better than the modern generic broadcasters like Len Kasper.

Fun announcer to listen to when Braves games were on TBS. This really came as a big shock. I'll miss him.

R.I.P. Skip.

Oh, you mean "Vanilla Len..."

I am glad I taped his last TBS game in Atlanta and his final TBS broadcast in Houston last year.
