So what could Chicago possibly have been thinking when they let this guy go?

"I have no idea why it happened," Ramirez said. "If I told you what they told me when they released me, you'd think it was a joke. They said, 'Swinging at the first pitch won't get you to the Major Leagues.' And that was all they really said."

You still suck,Julio. You will always suck.

Thanks to the Yankmees for beating the Twinkies as the Sox are about to become 21-15.They may as well come home 21-17.Is there any way this team can play more ass backwards??
In 32 years of watching this team,i've seen good, bad and ugly. This is fugly.Real, real fugly.F'in Ugly.Thank God we have 2 hits against a piece of crap pitcher with an ERA of 6.34 .Like I said in response to an earlier post,Scott Schoenweis always looks like Don Sutton or Don Drysdale against the Sox.

Question for Lenny:WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE YOU REALISE THIS TEAM NEEDS AN ESTABLISHED THIRD STARTER??THIS GARLAND,BIDDLE,GINTER,GLOVER,ET AL $HIT AIN'T GONNA CUT IT!!

You're right, 70, this crap AIN'T gonna cut it. When is a realistic timeframe to expect the Sox to add a quality No. 3 guy?

For once, the Sox actually had some good publicity going. The Tribune and Sun-Times both come out with articles stating how this could be a special season for the Sox. ESPN.com ranks the Sox No. 3 in their Power Alley. The Cubs suck. If there was ever a time for the Sox to capitalize, it's N-O-W. We need a quality No. 3 immediately. This is just disgusting.

We ought to have a contest to see who can come closest to predicting the exact date Ramirez gets sent back to the minors. Then we can have another contest for what date he's given his unconditional release.

July 19, 2002, and...

October 20, 2002.

I'll assume you meant .090, as .90 would be awfully good.

From ChicagoSports.com:

Laugh track: The Angels not only poured it on in their 19-0 rout on Friday, but they also rubbed it in the Sox's faces.

Former Sox outfielder Julio Ramirez hit his first major-league home run and later said, "I was laughing all the way" around the bases.

With an 18-0 lead in the seventh, Ramirez tagged up and advanced to third on a long fly. Manuel wasn't upset. "That's part of the game," he said.

*****

I say drop Julio in his next AB.

LOL, good idea!

The only problem is, Ramirez's rock hard skull might dent the baseball.

"I was never served meatballs this big at AAA, 'cause the Sox have Mike Porzio pitching for the big club!"

Man, first Milton Bradley and now Julio Ramirez? Who's giving these no-names the idea that they're allowed to talk smack?

:boston
It was great filler for my column, but now I'll be loyally giving hourly updates on Manny Ramirez's finger.

I'll take July 8th (unless Julio beats out Bradley and makes it to the All-Star Game as the Designated smack talker) and October 17.

I bet he doesn't swing at first pitch anymore...
