If the word 'Sox' and 'Cubs' were interchanged in this story, would anyone honestly be surprised?

Does anyone else find it both interesting and vaguely unnecessary that a sports angle was put on this, rather than just "man beaten at birthday party"?

How did the baseball teams come up? Was this some sort of taunting incident which got out of control? It's not like it was right outside a game between the Sox and Cubs. We're not getting the whole story here.....

What the hell does it matter what team these people root for?

Will we stoop to any level just to point out that we are somehow a better fanbase because our fans didn't beat the hell out of a guy at a birthday party.

This insecurity is deafening.

seriously

my friend who is a cubs fan got thrown through a window by a sox fan at a dominos earlier this year, and there was a write up in the sun times about it, and it happened all the way down in Normal.

it happens

it doesnt represent their entire fanbase. there are morons everywhere

entire stadiums hurling trash onto the field is a better indicator of what their fanbase is like

Sounds like those scumbags were just looking for a reason to get drunk and ruin someone's life.

I would guess baseball was just an excuse to needlessly start conflict.

TornLabrum

And once again a suburban newspaper's account explains the incident while the Tribune story just makes you scratch your head.

So Cubs/Sox was the spark that precipitated this. Those three morons should get the maximum sentence. *******s....

These guys are criminals plain and simple. It doesn't matter it they root for the Cubs, Sox, Marlins or Kane County Cougars. This story has nothing to do with the violent propensities of any particular team's fan base.

What a terrible story. Sounds like these guys are simply thugs. If it wasn't about baseball teams, they'd be beating up people over other equally stupid reasons.

If the word 'Sox' and 'Cubs' were interchanged in this story, would anyone honestly be surprised?

I agree with what your saying - if "Cubs" and "Sox" were interchanged in the incident, the media would say "is anyone honestly surprised?". Good point. Keep up the good work on the media watch.

I'm just messing with you.

The point is that the team names are irrelevent to the story. It could have been Packers/Bears, Royals/Cardinals, whatever. These people suck.

That would have been the way to make your point....

That said, I agree with you. It's just an excuse. When you have three psychopaths liquored up, it could be any excuse to stomp your head in...wouldn't even have to be sports.

I wonder if these guys have some history with the guy they beat up. Because if not, that's just absurd...beyond comprehension.

This insecurity is deafening.

I think it depends if they beat him up because he was a Sox fan, that was not mentioned in the story but I think it was implied due to the title. If that is the case then I think it is worth posting. If three Cub fans beat the crap out of a White Sox fan for no reason other than him being a Sox fan then you know it is going to be discussed here. If you don't like don't come into "What's The Score," because the Cubs are talked about here.

It is not surprising that some of us do not like the Cubs or their fanbase and when they do something ridiculous or stupid we are going to bring it up b/c we do not like them and we want to point it out. Call me flubsessed if you want, but I do not like the Cubs or their fans for the most part and I like talking about it, so I am glad we have a forum here that I can discuss it on.

/Sorry end rant

It says in the article that they were taunting the guy and things got out of control. I want to know who gets hammered drunk at a 2 year olds birthday party.

Seeing as how the party was held at the house of one of the men accused, its pretty likely...

I guess I am guilty as well but it was later at night after all the kids were gone. I guess the article didn't say when it happened so it may have been later. Little kids birthday parties turn into adult parties when the kiddies go to bed.

Mob activity? Wow.

Anything with over two people on a 'side' can be considered mob action.

After reading the Daily Herald Article, the guy who was beaten (Steele) was at his fiance's niece's house. The homeowner is one of the people charged, as is his brother. I am guessing the homeowner is Steele's fiance's brother-in-law (based on last names).

Great family.
