Fixing what isn't broken?

The rules just announced state that in the event of an 11th inning, the teams will chose what part of their lineup they would like to bat, and there will be a man on 2nd and 1st with no outs.

so, if you picked the 3,4,5 people to come to bat, 1 and 2 would already be on best.

This is just stupid.

That is pretty unusual. It sounds like a video game.

Olympic Softball games have a runner on second in extra innings.

Doesn't make the proposal for two runners any less lame though.

It reminds me of overtime in high school football, where each team gets the ball on the ten yard line and has four downs to score.

What's really disturbing is that I could easily see Selig trying to incorporate this into MLB games.

So if 1/2 are on base you you elect to start with 3/4/5 and they all strike out who is up and on base in the 12th?

That's a terrible rule. It makes it way too easy.

I think you lose in the bottom of the 11th =)

That's sounds like a rule for co-ed softball games that only are supposed to last an hour. In fact, that's almost exactly like my softball league rules.

Are they that worried about long games? What a joke for an olympic sport.

Isn't this the last year for Olympic Baseball?

You get to pick again and can put 1-2 on base and bat 3-4-5 again.

Brits are just jealous that baseball is more exciting than cricket. And we don't have tea breaks in our sport.

Or cucumber sandwiches.

Watching grass grow is more exciting than cricket.
