Discuss it live!

This was one of those 60 we should have lost based on the errors, having a rookie make his debut, etc.

But the Sox overcame it all and won in the end!

How did we win this game?

We gave up 11 hits, 4 errors, 3 walks, struck out as a team 11 times. Just a terrible game but I'll take it.

We are now 2.5 up on the Twins, and perhaps more importantly 5.5 up on the Kitties. Let's win these next two series and make life easier on ourselves.

I think TCQ is smart enough to know not to say something glib and stupid in the media. Troy Aikman was the same way - always worthless for a good quote and always stating the obvious. But as an announcer, he's pretty good. Aikman admitted that he just didn't want to risk saying something stupid and cause a distraction. I think Quentin has the same philosophy. He's certainly smart - he's a Stanford grad.

Nice to steal this one, very important to leave home with a win. Now I look at this 17 game stretch, it's huge, probably the biggest of the season. At worst they need to win 4 out of the next 5 series.

Detroit can be done by Sunday. If we would have lost I would be concerned about the weekend. Detroit is coming into the weekend after bombing KC with basic walk-throughs. Meanwhile we were in wars with Texas. We will come in edgy, hot and ready to kick ass. I say we take at least 2 of 3. If we sweep it will be time for Detoilet to look towards 09.

For the second time this year, The Sox won with Carlos Quentin hitting two home runs with the second coming in the team's last at bat. And what a big win this was.

The Sox should have won the last game in Texas. Maybe the Rangers should have won the game today. I think the Sox deserved to win today. The Sox had two on and two out in the first, and Thome homered. The Sox had two on and two out in the eighth and Quentin homered. Cabrera and Swisher failed with two on and two out and Quentin hit into a doubleplay with two on and none out, but that isn't a bad clutch hitting percentage.

Today's win could be called a sloppy win. The pitching wasn't there. At a few points the defense wasn't there. But the offense and defense was there at the end. I, of course, subscribe to the theory that that there is no such thing as a sloppy White Sox win.

He had some good life on the fastball, 92/93 mostly and a pretty good change. Was not impressed with his slider though.

Well, I just got back from the game.

First off, fire Greg Walker

Second of all, this is by far the worse played game I've ever seen.
But I'll take it!

When Uribe hustled to 2nd base on that double, everyone in my section (149) felt like a comeback was happening. What makes this win sweeter is that TCQ got payback on that jagoff Wilson. I was like "YEAAAAAHHHH! C'MON WILSON, RAISE YOUR HANDS NOW YOU ****** PUNK! It felt great to see him get PO'd walking off the field pounding his mitt. Everyone is going home happy today!:bandance::bandance:

Oh, and third of all, TCQ for MVP!

It looks like it'll be between him and ManRam in the AL, but Carlos has him in HRs and RBIs, also in runs scored.

OK - how was the homeplate ump unprofessional?Well, what set Ozzie off was, when he was trying to state his case, Drake said, "Ozzie just get back in the dugout." You know, like the also condesceding Hunter Wendlestedt (sp?) does. That set Ozzie off, and I don't blame him. Guillen then kept calling Drake a punk.

Plus, Swisher was staying calm and talking to the ump about the outside pitch right after it happened, and the ump got right in Swish's face and was screaming something at him. That's when Ozzie came out, and all hell broke loose.

He's a terrible interview...

He basically states the glaringly obvious things that you would expect.

Toby Hall got him with the shaving cream pie though.

I thought he was hilarious because he couldn't stop looking around for Toby. He knew it was coming and he still couldn't stop it. It was priceless.

Throw as many lefties as you can against the Twinkies. We really need Logan to snap out of it.

Danks has allowed 13 earned runs in 13.1 innings against the Twins this year. Seven of those came in 2.1 innings in his first start of the season against the Twins, and the Sox won the next two games, but all of the games were high scoring (by Sox standards), and all fo the games were played in Chicago.

Richard hit 93 a few times and 94 once I think on the TV gun. Hawk was saying that he was six inches faster than the scouting reports said. His fastball had some good movement. His change-up looked good when he threw it. Don't recall the slider ...

I was impressed.

I too was impressed. If he had better D in back of him we would have done better. 7 K's against a tough Rangers offense is very good. I'm glad he'll take the ball against Minny in the Humpdump. We got three lefties in the rotation now.

I love how TCQ responds in interviews... all business. When Mora was trying to stir the pot on Wilson ; Carlos just said he wants to move on...smart.

Of course , when Ozzie was asked about it he said it was over for him but the locker room enjoyed it....oh yea they did!

10 runs back to back...nice.
Clayton has a live arm and has real potential down the line. Minnesota is a tough test cuz they will make him throw strikes and will foul off tons of pitches. Must have command.

Juan quietly had a big game offensively...way to go juanie.
Big Jim is starting to mash daily now...love it.
PK comes thru in the clutch.
JD's catch was tremendous.

Just returned from the Sox game today. Wow - what a win! I am still in shock from this comeback win. The 4 errors were ugly indeed, but I'll take the win.

Here's what I enjoyed the most - seeing 35,000+ fans (many of them school children wearing Chicago Park District Summer Camp t-shirts) jumping up and down and celebrating a White Sox winner after Quentin's homer and Jenks saved the game in the 9th. I enjoyed the fans chanting "Let's go White Sox" as we were walking down the ramps and out of the park. I have also heard the highlights of Farmeo's and Hawks calls on the TCQ home run - they were amazing!

A very bizarre, strange, unreal game today. Four errors, a ton of strikeouts...the Sox did everything they could to lose this one...yet didn't and that says something about the club.

Richard needs a lot more seasoning. He may be someone for the back end of the rotation in the next year or two.

Now Boone Logan, that's another story.

A nice win, and the Twins also lost...now get ready to "strap it down," as the single biggest week of the season starts Friday night in Detroit.

If the Sox play well they can really solidify their position in the division. If not.....well... let's see what happens.

Paulie barehanded one a few days ago as well. I tried that once in a LL game. Our second baseman, who hadn't cleanly fielded a ball all year, made an amazing stop and fired the ball over to first. It was too far right for me to react in time to glove it, so I tried to bare hand it. Jammed two fingers and one of my fignernails turned dark brown and fell off a few days later .

I'd put Galarraga slightly ahead of Alexei at this point in the ROY voting, but it's close. Longoria is of course the far and away winner.

If the Sox win the division and the Rays fall away, and Alexi continues to hit .340 the rest of the year, he would be worthy of ROY. We will see how Longoria finishes,he is real young. two questions off the post above about evan longoria....

1. when do they pick ROY? ...

Writers vote on Rookie of the Year. Unless it has changed, it used to be two baseball writers from each city in the league -- 28 votes for the AL and 30 for the NL. The writers vote first-, second- and third-place on their ballots.

The voting takes place before the postseason. When the writers actually make their decision is up to the voting writer. There as a Chicago writer in 1972 in the days when the newspapers switched teams team beats at the All-Star break who said he knew he had to vote for Dick Allen for Most Valuable Player after the first game he saw him play, the first game in the second half in which Allen hit two home runs.

People have different standards of what the Rookie of the Year award means. Some believe it is the rookie with the greatest potential for the future. Some believe it is the rookie who puts up the best numbers. Some believe it is the rookie who contributes the most to a winning team. How the Sox and the Rays finish in the standings could have an effect on the vote. The Rays have been such a feel-good story that the Rays finishing third might not affect the Rookie of the Year vote.
