While Contreras is on the DL, why not bring up Broadway for a start or 2.

Broadway in Charlotte this year: 8-5, 4.21, 74 K, CG

It's better than giving Masset or Carrasco (a reliever who has been a full-time starter in only one year of his career) a spot start.

He'll get his chance in September when the roster expands. I'm pretty sure Kenny has a move forth coming soon.

I wouldnt be apposed to Broadway, so who pitches for Jose tuesday now? The probable pitcher wasnt updated yet

Most likely Carrasco. Masset's had a lot of work lately.

Bringing Broadway up now would start the clock and probably make him ineligible for ROY in 2009.

You sure sound confident.

Oh right, I forgot that you need to be a ROY candidate to be considered a legitimate player in the bigs.

Yanking him back and forth between the minors and majors is something I'd like to avoid. It can't help his progress.

Broadway's ERA is over 6.00 his last 10 starts. The reason they don't call him up is because he isn't good.

Not a lot to choose from. They probably won't bring up Richard because Olympics/similarity in stuff to Buerhle and Danks. Haeger is throwing well, but they have no to catch him. Poreda is doing okay, but nothing special and he's not ready. Our completely barren farm system really hurts when we suffer injuries.

How about giving the kid a chance.

If the Sox choose a reliever, I would make it Jon Link. He's been great at Birmingham. He has not made it to Charlotte yet, but neither did Jenks. Link does not throw the ball as hard at Jenks, but he is a competitor and has been the most consistent and effective pitcher in the Sox farm system this year.

Bringing Broadway up would start the arbitration clock. It's best not to do that.

Even if he had ROY talent, which at this point in his career there really isn't any evidence to believe he does over say a David Price, why would that be a reason not to bring him up?

We have a talented young pitcher, but we don't want to bring him up in the middle of a pennant race because otherwise he wouldn't qualify for ROY the next season? But well, like I said the argument might be moot because unless he has a breakout streak in the next few months it's highly unlikely.

I'm going to hope the ROY comment was a joke, but the arbitration thing is a tough issue...win now vs plan for the future. I think right now, if he's the best option we have, bring him up. If he becomes a FA a little sooner and he's worth keeping, then I'm not going to mind signing him.

I really think everyone who thinks Broadway should be called up should look at his work the last 3 months. He has been terrible. If you don't like how Jose Contreras has pitched the last month and a half, you're not going to like how Broadway has pitched in AAA either.
