I like my idea of combining the records of the 4 playoff teams in each league and using that to determine home-field advantage. Total inter-league record is the tie-breaker.
Meanwhile, Kinsler was definitely safe. It will be interesting to see how the rules for instant replay work.

It's not horrible under the old "ball beats runner" theory, but it's horrible in a big game with HD slow-mo replays.

The tag was not in front of the plate, and was high. I'm pretty Novarro's foot made contact with the plate first.

If there isn't a rule on the books at the beginning of the year, one side would go nuts. You would probalby have to flip a coin. If you did anything like best record, best record in interleague, whatever....half way through the year....it wouldn't be right b/c you could choose whatever criteria that would get you the desired outcome.

It introduces all sorts of judgment calls. Runner initially called safe but replay shows he was out. Where do other runners go? If they were on their way to another base, the defense loses the opportunity to make a play. It would be bad for the game.

It introduces all sorts of judgment calls. Runner initially called safe but replay shows he was out. Where do other runners go? If they were on their way to another base, the defense loses the opportunity to make a play. It would be bad for the game.

Call me old school, but I think being able to sell a tag on a close play is a skill. Tejada sold that play at 2nd but confidently showing the ump the ball after making a swipe in one smooth motion. You lose some of that gamesmanship with replay. Yes some may say, "just get the call right," but again that play at 2nd, I give Tejada as much credit as I blame the ump for missing the call.

If you're a baseball fan, you appreciate such things. I don't believe in sacrifice bunts except in extreme circumstances, and I pretty much feel the same way about intentional walks. But I was impressed with the groundout to second to move the runner to third in the bottom of the 12th.

Right so it could only be used in situations where it ends the game immediately - like what I suggested and like what occurred to foster the discussion. Runner called out, play continues to completion, then check the tapes.
