Go AL! Give our Sox home-field advantage for the WS!

And please don't give the Cubs home-field advantage. Based on how the NL is right now, if the Cubs make the playoffs, they have a easy route to the World Series. Plus, based on their performance at home, the possibility of them winning 75-100% of their home games is quite high. I had a tough enough time in 2003 fending off stupid bandwagoners, please don't let it happen again. The best way is for the Sox to be along with them in the playoffs, but in case that plan fails, there's always the method of rooting against the Cubs.

I doubt Crede plays. I can see TCQ with a big hit though

I don't trust Francona though, in the pressers, Hurdle was stern and said, 'not everyone's going to play, too bad, there's a bigger picture here', while Francona was all about 'oh we're aware of the history, of the Stadium, and we're going to do our best to make sure we can get in as many players as possible, in consideration with winning'

Even with all the Hall of Famers, it didn't approach the emotion of Ted Williams' last public appearance. But Ted Williams was a better hitter than anyone who took the field today. And he flew more combat missions as a fighter pilot than everyone-- combined -- on the field today.

A few years ago, a 20-something tried to convince me that Aparicio doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. As if being the greatest shortstop doesn't merit such recognition. Stat geeks say silly things sometimes.

Looking at the roster for the AL I would assume Mauer goes the 1st 3, Navarro 4-6 and Varitek 7-9. Youkilis 1-6 with Morneau 7-9. SAme with 2B and SS. As far as the OF they are only carrying 6 so probably 2 AB's for the starters. I expect 1 of the 3B to replace Bradley and possibly 2 of them since Bradley wasn't voted in.

If it were a meaningless exhibition, sure. Then you could run out of pitchers in extra innings and finish with a tie game.

In 1935, Lety Gomez pitched the first six innings of the American League's 4-1 win. After that that game, they limited pitchers to three innings.

I would have to think Hamilton would rather everyone stop talking about his past. Hell it has to be a bit embarrassing for him.

He probably would, but that's the other aspect of situations like his. He will never be able to completely escape his past, no matter how much he may wish to. There are always going to be questions about what the mistakes he made, what he had to do just to get his life in order, let alone make it back to organized baseball.

This is perhaps the most important lesson for children to learn watching someone like Josh Hamilton: the vast majority of people who make the mistakes he made end up dead, in jail, or with lives significantly different from those they envisioned. That Hamilton has been to get back on track is the exception, rather than the rule.

I thought you were talking about how only Konerko grounds into doubleplays. There ae six players on the Sox who have grounded into more doubleplays than Konerko. Jeter, however, leads the Yankees in the category by a wide margin.
Well in those 6 players defense' PK did miss alot of time due to injury.

"If you feel like you're going to hit into a double play, just strikeout."

-Tom Paciorek

Makes you wonder about the thought processes of some of these players when they're up with men on base and less than 2 outs, they get 2 strikes, then have to defend the strikezone. I hate to see them hit a weak one to their weak side for the easy DP. they should still be looking for a pitch to drive, and K if necessary. Wimpy was a good announcer, Wish he was working somewhere.

Well, I think Wimpy was just joking when he said that. Apparently, that was one of the quips on the bench when he was playing for the Dodgers.

When you think about it, it's true, though. It's better to K and make one out than to GIDP.

Quentin and Swisher had grounded into more doubleplays than Konerko before he went on the disabled list. Jeter had hit inot more doubleplays than Konerko when he went on the disabled list. Derek Lee of the Cubs had hit into more than twice as many doubleplays as Konerko before he went on the disabled list. However, if you want to say that anyone who hits into a doubleplay is doing a "Konerko," there is nothing to stop you. I just think it's petty and mean.

You see it in exhibition games and after a player has recorded a historic achievement. When Bill Melton became the first player in Sox history to lead the league in home runs by hitting a home run in his second at bat of the last game of the 1971 season, Chuck Tanner took him out mid-inning and replaced him with Walt "No-Neck" Williams so he could get the applause.

A guy on deadspin made a point on Hamilton that I kind of agree with...It's kind of a shame that no matter what Hamilton ever does he will never just be an all-star....he will always be the guy that battled through drugs to be an all-star. I mean hell, you used to hear about Eckersley all the time and that was booze, not hard core drugs. I'm sure he'd like to move forward with his life as much as we would.
