1) Josh Hamilton, 20 HR
2) Justin Morneau, 14 HR
3) Evan Longoria, 16 HR
4) Ryan Braun, 22 HR
5) Lance Berkman, 22 HR
6) Chase Utley, 25 HR
7)Grady Sizemore, 23 HR
8) Dan Uggla, 23 HR

I'm fine with him not participating, and I think he probably would have declined anyways but how in the hell does Quentin NOT get an invitation?

That's what I was thinking. How do we know who was invited? Has anyone said they turned down an invite?

If whitesox.com said he wasn't invited, then he wasn't. Why? Heck if I know.

Your right, but yeah that's pretty messed up.

Lets hope Q gets an AB or two in the game after Ramirez or Ichiro comes out.

TCQ will hopefully get his shot next year or the year after. He was probably under the radar this year.
Personally, I'll root for Justin Morneau to hit about 50 home runs tomorrow to hurt his swing for the second half.

I hope Chris Berman chokes on his tongue.

Yeah, take Longoria out and put in Quentin IMO. He looks like he'd do well in a HR derby, he's got that Canseco swing, and I believe Canseco won a derby.

He's too intense for the HR Derby.

It's a family event with kids of players running all over the field. And we know Quentin, everytime he pops up a pitch right down the middle, he goes "mother ****er bitch **** **** ass."

Haha, yeah that's what I was going to say. Quentin is more of a pure hitter that happens to get some homers, one of those that as they mature their 2B turn into homers, etc. I'd rather he keep that swing and stay out of the derby.

Crede though, he'd be fine. You can get 10 pop-ups that's more than enough for him to knock a few out.

And you guys can't honestly say you're not pumped to hear Berman say: "BACK, BACK, BACK....GAAAAANNNE ALL THE WAY TO ALBANY!!!"

A-Rod should be in this thing, and it looks real bad for MLB. Hell, it's the only reason why the Yankees resigned him in the first place! They want to maximize publicity and profit on his chase for the HR record, and he isn't participating in the HR Derby? At Yankee Stadium? Even Bonds did it several times.

Foulke You
07-14-2008, 12:20 PM
I'm thinking one of the reasons Joe or Carlos didn't get asked is that they are right handed batters and Yankee Stadium has "death valley" out there in left center field. ESPN and MLB are in the business of putting on a show for the derby and if you stack the lineup with right handed power hitters, it could be a dud of a HR derby. Yankee Stadium is a left handed hitters haven which is probably why Hamilton, Sizemore, and Morneau got the call over Quentin and Crede.

Personally, I'm relieved that they didn't get asked. Normally, I like having a White Sox guy in the derby to cheer for but with Crede's back and Quentin's shoulder, I'm perfectly fine with them holding their camcorders on the sidelines with the other players.

Erin is fast becoming a nuisance, largely because ESPN is forcing her down everyone's throats. What happened to Sam Ryan, who used to help with Sunday Night Baseball? It gets old seeing the same people covering every single event, yet another reason why I limit ESPN viewing to only a few events each year.

I generally have hated the guy since he's a Twin, but he handled his win with class.
I actually feel a bit bad for him b/c the ESPN guys were almost ridiculing him for winning.

I agree that Hamilton was the show/story of the night, but it's not Morneau's fault that the rules
consist of a separate and distinct final round score.

I have to hand it to the guy, he was very gracious.
Congrats to Morneau.

It is obviously not the only thing that this is about and I should have known better before I posted it. I knew there would be people who are so level headed that nothing bugs them except for what happens on the field. I understand the fact that he kills the Sox on the field is more important, but when he said this it still bugged me. Morneau also once commented that he would rather see any team in the AL Central win the division than the White Sox.

The rivalry between the fans is one thing, but I don't know that I have ever heard a player single out another team for pointed hatred like Morneau has with the Sox. It seems that most players are more professional than to make such comments, even about a rival team. It is even more significant because Morneau is generally known as a reserved player who doesn't make many off-the-cuff remarks.

But I agree, I am much more concerned about what Morneau does to the Sox with his bat and glove than I am any childish comments he makes to the media. And if the Twins would like to trade Konerko for Morneau straight up, I wouldn't mind a bit. :D:

Part of me thinks that most of those balls to Hamilton were juiced. I mean multiple 500 ft shots? I'm guessing that for the fans they had to have Hamilton hit a bunch just to add on to the great story. I mean how anticlimactic would it have been if Hamilton hit like 5? Doubt that would have happened either way. Although I believe he's the real deal and all, part of me thinks that most of those balls were simply juiced.

That PSA 10 Bowman Chrome Rookie card that I bought in 2000 after the drug rumors started coming out is starting to look sweet. I only paid $5 for it. Time to sell.

I think just about everyone would agree that the Home Run Derby balls are not regular game balls. It was still fun to watch.

See, I'm on the other end of the spectrum with that. It makes me respect and like Morneau more because he hates the Sox and admits it. I like that teams and players hate the Sox. That's the kind of passion that breeds great baseball and makes it that much better when the Sox win.

Who do you respect more? Morneau, or some other guy that hates the Sox but doesn't have the balls to say it? I choose Morneau.

Still gotta hit a juiced ball pretty hard for it to go over 500+ feet. You have to admit it was fun to watch

Hmm, yeah I see your point. It just surprises me for some reason that a professional player would publicly state their hatred toward another team. What if he someday winds up getting traded to the Sox?

And it makes me wonder if Morneau has always hated the Sox, or is it just because he plays for the Twins?

But, yeah, I have to admit, I am extra happy whenever a Sox pitcher faces Morneau and gets him out. I just wish it would happen more often.

HR Derby PTC winner Josh Hamilton saves MLB's and ESPN's ass as they've really otherwise screwed up what used to be a great event to watch.

Morneau? Who dat?
