View Full Version : Your Most Hated Player in the League

Bucky F. Dent
07-10-2008, 10:59 AM
The thread regarding Josh Hamilton ringing up Frankie Rodriguez for a walk off home run led me to question, who is your most hated player currently in the league.

Mine has to be F-Rod. His antics after a save are the most obnoxious, self aggrandizing garbage I have seen a player do on a field of play in a very long time.

So, who ya got?

Rocky Soprano

Ignoramis Ramirez. That son of a bitch can show boat with the best of them EVERY time he hits a home run. And even on some warning track shots.

Probably a tie between Giambi, Schilling (if he counts), Zambrano and Orlando Cabrera.

I hated him in Cleveland, I hate him now in Boston.

wears his cap crooked and his porn star name is a joke. Plus he took out my guy Iwamura (favorite non-White Sox player) when he thought he was taking out Jason Bartlett, leading to that Boston/Tampa brawl.

Carlos Zambrano. Gets upset when players flip the bat yet its ok for him to jump around like a moron after a strikeout.

Jim Eddmonds. Arguably the biggest jerk in baseball besides Barry Bonds over the past 10 years. Plus he is Mr. I'll purposly get a late jump so I can dive for the ball.

Justin Morneau - Cocky attitude and he hates the Sox. So I hate him.

So many, but here's my "top 5" most hated:

1. Manny Ramirez;
2. Schilling;
3. Zambozo;
4. Jason "BALCO" Giambi; and
5. Sosa (he hasn't officially retired yet).

Ivan Rodriguez, he's a show boat too. Not sure if he does this now, but I've heard he would call fast ball after fast ball just to have a better chance of throwing runners out and pad his stats, with little regard to his pitcher getting rocked.

A lot of people have the same list. I'd have to say any of those pitchers that dance around the mound after a strikeout save or big out.
1. K-Rod I hate him more than cancer, and I hope he breaks something after one of those jerky moves he does.
2. Valverde is a complete douchebag
3. Paplebon is a complete *******, nothing more nothing less
4. Zambrano but I think he has actually calm down this year, that or I just haven't been paying attention this year.
5. Chamberlain is getting up there, more or less because of all the hype about him.
6. (unkown) he is closer (I think) that crosses his arms like an "X" after doing something, relatively new closer/RP.

Aramis Ramirez, simply because Cub fans think he's great and he rarely plays defense. Present-day Michael Jackson because he wears a glove on one hand for no apparent reason. Next time he moves for an infield pop-up may be the first.

Alfonso Soriano, because he can sign a $136M contract and whine that he can't hit anywhere but leadoff. Someone forgot to tell him that the winner of the game is the team that scores the most runs, and you're really not going to have an opportunity to drive in runs in the National League hitting lead-off because the pitcher hits in front of you. Plays defense like Michael Jackson too.

Barry Bonds, just because he's a grade-A tool. It's sad he "broke" Henry Aaron's home run record. Aaron has more class in a hangnail than Bonds will ever have.

Special mention for Joe Randa (now retired) and Mike Sweeney, who used to just wear the Sox out when they both played for Kansas City.

Aramis Ramirez - Hot dog. When he homered against the Sox at Wrigley, he should have been drilled the next time up for his posturing.

Manny Ramirez - Also a hot dog. I can't stand players who pose after hitting home runs. Plus, he plays for Boston and that whole "Manny being Manny" thing makes me want to puke.

Derek Jeter - Good player, but he benefits greatly by being THE SHORTSTOP FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES. Crank up the hype machine.

Today while I was following the Sox game on the Internet, I saw the end of the A's game and the Angels closer, who has probably already been mentioned. After Street blew the save and gave up the go-ahead run on an infield hit that scored a runner from second, the A's got a single, a walk and a sacrifice (usually a mistake) off Rodriguez, who intentionally walked the next hitter to load the bases with one out and a one-run lead. He struck out the next two hitters and put on a display that was embarrassing to see. If he comes in to pitch for the American League in the All-Star Game with the game on the line, I would love to him lose the game, and I am an American League fan. Such are the extremes of my dislike of Mr. Rodriguez. As much as I loathe the A's, I would have loved to have seen him lose today.

What made today's game especially tough for the fans was that strike two on the last hitter was a foul that tipped the bat while the hitter pulled away from it. The scoreboard operator had it as a ball, and the fans thought the last strike was a 3-1 pitch for a strike when Rodriguez started celebrating.

While I don't hate him, I have really come to dislike Josh Hamilton. I'm sick of hearing what a great story he is. His problems were problems he brought on himself. It wasn't like he came back from cancer. And it isn't like he had the problems before he discovered baseball. Players like Jermaine Dye or Harold Baines who dealt with adversity without having substance abuse problems are far more inspirational.

You make a very good point. While I hope to never have to combat the addiction problems that Hamilton has, it still isn't the same thing as what Jon Lester has come back from, or what Dave Dravecky tried to come back from IMO.

I felt the same way until I read this article (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/albert_chen/05/27/hamilton0602/index.html) about how he spends a lot of his time talking to people at community centers, churches and schools and how he's a great fan guy. He still takes so many precautions so he's not tempted to start doing drugs again.

It significantly changed my opinion on him. Yeah, he brought it upon himself and you'd think he'd stay out of drugs after having such a good thing going for him... but his recovery story is pretty amazing.

It's nice that Josh Hamilton talks to kids, but I see that as community service. Dock Ellis claimed he pitched a no-hitter while under the influence of LSD. The last I heard, he became a drug counselor in Victorville, Calif. and was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver and waiting for a transplant. Alan Wiggins talked to kids about the evils of drugs (I heard him) before he was linked to drugs that forced him out of baseball and he died from AIDS complications brought on by his drug use.

I don't see his talking to kid about the evils of drugs a reason to cheer for him. I see it as the least he could do.

I hate to make a first post about hate :?:, but I might as well get my feet wet here. Truth be told, I don't really hate anyone in sports, but I do find hotdoggers and showboaters tiresome, so I might as well pick Frankie Rodriguez. Last year or two it might have been Zambozo, but he seems to be playing the fool a little less recently.

This might be a really poor thing for a newcomer to say, but I haven't been exactly thrilled to see how many of the current White Sox players are on the "flip the bat, point to the sky, kiss the icon on the necklace, stomp with both feet on home plate" bandwagon.

Gomez comes off the bench on our team. And he should stay there with his sub-.300 OBP.

Take out his 25 bunt hits and he's hitting .213.

Renteria actually had a really good game until that screw up in the 14th. He made a couple of nice defensive plays and had a good night at the dish.

Oh, how fans forget the good when you mess up in crucial situations...

Hence, he's a terrible hitter.

Yes, but you can't take out his 25 bunts because that is his game. He will keep bunting until teams figure out a way to keep him off base when he does it. A bunt single leading off an inning or with a runner on third is just as valuable as a single to the outfield.

Trust me, last night's game was not even the cherry on the sundae.

Between April 24 and July 25, he had 4 extra base hits, and 2 of them came in the same game.

Glad to see all the Gomez hate here. I've hated that guy since the moment I saw him running 50 additional feet after the catch on a routine fly ball.

Nah. I'd be interested in your explanation, though.

I was talking about his interest in lucky charms.

All of my Tiger fan buddies are counting the days until he's gone.

I don't think I've seen this much anger from them toward a player since Bobby Higginson!

Throw up and in at him first pitch every time. Knock him on his punk ass so he's too scared to lay down a successful bunt. And then throw up and in at him again just to make a point.

And I was pissed that the Sox couldn't get him when they initially made the deal.

Current players:

Schilling - self-serving, pompous, ego-centric, running-mouth jerk

Jeter - good ball player, but wallowing in the attention and self glorification from the NY media.

Wood - so much time and effort spent on such little accomplishment. when he gets his next job, stocking shelves at an Aldi somewhere, I doubt that he will get three weeks on the disabled list when he develops a blister after stocking the Green Giant Niblets.

Former players:

Mickey Mantle - I can't remember any other player in my childhood that seemed to be able to single handedly destroy the Sox so often.

Frank Thomas - As good as he was, IMHO, he had the chance and ability to be the best baseball player, ever. But for every day that he was the Big Hurt, he spent as much time being the Big Skirt. So much talent and only one WS ring. He could (and should) have two or three more.
