For the All Star Game there are MLB-themed Liberty statues scattered around NYC. Miss Sox Liberty is at 4th and 14th, southeast of Union Square Park:

I want to see a picture of the Red Sox statue. Being in NYC it has probably been defaced already.

I think the statues are a stupid idea.

Is nothing sacred anymore. :(:

Totally agree. They are 100% tacky.

They're better looking than the ones we had all around the city in 2003.

Of course not, but I think they are kind of cool looking.

I totally agree with you. They do look better. That doesn't make it right though.

What statues are you referring to? I didn't live in Chicago in 2003.

Lifesize bobbleheads all over the city, painted in various team colors/logos similar to the Statue of Liberty gimmick.

I was in NYC last week and we went on a hunt to find the White Sox statue. When we had gotten there some Cubs fan had already written Sox Suck on the book in the statues hand. We promptly went inside the Walgreens, bought Wite Out, and fixed it.

That's impossible. The Cubs fans don't care about the White Sox.

And you know it was a Cubs fan because it said Sox Suck? Please.

No, nothing is. That's what we get for responding to anyone who ever was offended by anything with the phrase "What's the big deal?" or "It's no big deal."

Eventually, every line is crossed and we have nothing left that can't be tarnished.

It's the Cub fans' mantra. Even during 2005.

If it wasn't a Cub fan, it was Timberwolf. The only problem with that theory is the fact that New York City is far, far away from his/her/it's mother's basement in Minneapolis.

I loved the life size bobbleheads. My wife and I spent a day trying to find all of them. We got a picture with most of them but some were to hard to get to. There was one at the Science Museum but we were not going to pay to park just to get a picture of it.

Its the Statue of Liberty, which is an American treasure.

Combined with baseball, which is - at least to those of us posting on this board - an American treasure. And this really is a fairly historic event, as its the official national good-bye to America's most storied baseball stadium.

Its not like they painted the actual statue in a Yankees uniform, or are slapping advertisements on there.

We're talking about a statue being painted with a team's logo; yet "nothing is sacred."

Man, I hate that we always have to use TEAL to be sarcastic.

I believe I saw these for sale at Grandstand.

They are available online. I haven't seen any up close. I believe they are a stupid idea.

But I saw a Derek Jeter jack in the box the other day. You crank the handle. It plays the melody to the chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. And a Derek Jeter puppet pops up to frighten small children.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

If they had an A-Rod jack-in-the-box, I bet when you cranked it it would play "Material Girl."
