I don't want TCQ or Crede to participate in the derby. I'm subscribed to the "derby messes up your swing" theory.

I agree... Even though I like seeing our big guns get to take a 3-day break during the All-Star Week to get ready for the stretch run, it's still nice to see as many White Sox participate in the game as possible, but the Home Run Derby... Eh, I don't care one bit.

Grady Sizemore is also on the list now.

How the hell is Grady Sizemore leading the AL in home runs?

We frequently see guys win the HR Derby and then tank the rest of the year. I say stay away, they aren't real home runs, anyway.

So is my fantasy team doomed because I have Berkman and Chase Utley?

You may want to trade them now while their value is high? :dunno:

In the 2003 HR Derby at The Cell we had Garrett Anderson and Albert Pujols in the final.

1st Half

Anderson AVG .316 HR 22 RBI 78 SLG .597

Pujols .368 27 86 .690

2nd Half

Anderson AVG .313 HR 7 RBI 38 SLG .463

Pujols .346 16 38 .634

The "derby messes up your swing" theory that I believe in doesn't apply to everyone but I've seen it do more good than bad. The ones I remember it messing up were Paulie in '02 and Abreu in '05.

Abreu is actually the perfect example. Here are his splits from 2005

Pre All Star AVG .307 HR 18 RBI 58 SLG .526

Post All Star .260 6 44 .411

JD would be the only one I'd be content with participating in the derby as in 06 it didn't seem to screw up his swing as he went on to finish off an MVP caliber season. So IF he gets voted on maybe he'll get an invite, the way Quentin is low key and all I don't see him accepting an invitation to the derby.

Guys that have ridiculous first halfs that also shouldn't have had them tend to have terrible second halfs. Because the selections are usually based on guys playing out of their minds the first half, you see a lot of participants have drop-offs.

Chase and Lance will probably have drop-offs. It's common sense, not the Home Run Derby.

I don't know, the way Crede has been swinging since the Cubs series, maybe he needs his swing messed up.
