I can't say this is a surprise...

Indians designated RHP Joe Borowski for assignment.

It says a lot about how overdue the move was that Borowski goes from closing games to off the roster completely, but the Indians stuck with him in the ninth inning for 1 1/2 seasons despite a 5.57 ERA in 82 1/3 frames, including a hideous 12.46 mark this year. Based on performance alone he should struggle to find another big league job initially, but given that he's a "proven closer" you never know. Masa Kobayashi now looks like the favorite for saves, although manager Eric Wedge has yet to officially name a replacement closer and both Rafael Perez and Rafael Betancourt could also be in the mix.

Damn.

How he saved so many games last year was mind boggling.

I got to give the guy credit for what he did to make it to the bigs.

I say pick him up pronto.. A change of scenery and some minor corrections to his delivery is all he needs.

The only reason you pick him up, is if you are betting on the other team.

I'm glad he at least was in for our series. I hope the Indians are able to smack the Twins around this weekend.

If you truly believe that, I'm just glad you don't work for the White Sox.

I think it's time for Borowski to retire.

I was thinking the same thing. Of course, we have to take care of at least a couple of these games against the A's too.

I hope the Indians keep Sabathia, though, and make a bit of a July-August run against the other Central teams.

Part of me can't help but feel bad for him. I've met him before (I've met a bunch of guys on the '04 Cubs and Sox) and he was really very nice. He gutted out every save he got last year (and in '03 when he was respectable). I liked that about him. Best of luck Joe.

The Northern League puts a maximum on the number of veterans allowed on a team. Wally already brought in Caruso. There is no room for him there.

Is anyone going to pick him up? Maybe he can turn things around elsewhere a la Marte in '06.
