Different night, different hero!

What a great victory.

It's always nice to sweep a division opponent.

Good to see BA get a timely hit.

Too bad for Linebrink; hope Jenks is OK.

Russell gets his second win in as many nights.

You want torture? Try following the game online on gamecast. The ball floats around and your at the mercy of the programmer following the action. Nothing was better than seeing the blue colored "ball in play" graphic and seeing the Sox score flip to 6. You can put it on the board...YES!

There have now been six walkoffs this year:

Often, minor league closers aren't major league prospects. I remember when the Sox AAA team was in Nashville and they had this closer - I think his name was Jeff Abbot - he lead the league in saves; the Sox basically released him at the end of the season.

Where's Logan been? He's had a good year, but doesn't seem to pitch much lately.

:bandance:

A few things:
- We weren't going to hold down Sizemore forever, and he finally broke out against us (not much Linebrink can do about that) ... now we don't have to see him until September. :D:
- I hope Jenks is OK!
- Contreras battled.
- Offense battled against a good pitcher who made great adjustments.
- Russell is the man.

And the fun continues.

Logan and Massett are often used when we're losing a game, mopup or for situational duty. Dotel, Thornton and Linebrink are most often use when we're holding a lead. Most managers use a similar system.

The original "Vulture" was former great Dodger relief pitcher Phil Regan in the early 60's if memory serves. That was his nickname.

He eventually spent some time with the Sox in 1972.

and the term "vulture" in a baseball sense means a scavenger, a guy who for example, will pitch a third of an inning, having to come in for a guy who is spent after pitching say 2 1/3rd innings and gets the win.

The guy who threw almost three innings doesn't even get a hello.

Steve Kealy was like that for the Sox in the early 70's. He seemed to come in and poof suddenly the Sox win the game.

I was out tonight and listening to the Giants game on KNBR. Jon Miller noted that the Cubs, who the Giants are playing, are in first place, and the other Chicago team is in first place. After a few more pitchers, he said the Sox were leading 5-4, but Grady Sizemore hit his second homer of the game with Linebrink going for the save. When Miller added that the game was tied in the bottom of the ninth, I wasn't worried. The way things are going, I expected last-at-bat heroics.

On Gameday, I turned on my computer, and after the Garko popout, up popped a blue baseball for Pierzynski, with the pitch described as "in play (run)." Just as I expected.

This has been a great homestand. It might end up being a season defining homestand when we look back on it. That's 9-3 against the Indians who beat the Sox in their first two games of the season. Winning is great. Burying the Indians makes it even better.

I didn't know who would do it. Joe Crede, Paul Konerko, Brian Anderson and Orlando Cabrera now have game-ending hits. I hope I didn't miss anyone. I feel a Sox get a game-ending hit in Baltimore next month, where there won't be any fireworks.

Story at the Tribune says Bobby felt a "twinge" in the left side of his back. Not his right side, not his pitching arm and Ozzie is being cautious.

Soreness doesn't allow him to extend fully at the moment.

Linebrink doesn't look comfortable "closing" and I can recall three late inning / game situation home runs off him so I'd hope Ozzie takes another approach if Bobby isn't ready in the next day or two. Thornton or Dotel depending on the situation.

Out of those 2 I would want Dotel since he at least has some experience, but I actually wouldn't mind seeing Boone Logan get a chance... I think he could develop into a solid late inning guy and you never know what he could do closing games if given a chance

Personally, I don't see Detroit's pitching holding up. I don't see how Zumaya's finger can handle it, but I'm no orthopod. Even if it does, their bullpen is a problem. We found out last year that it doesn't matter who your closer is if the rest of your pen can't get the game to him.

The White Sox now actually have a better record than Boston and remain only three back of the Devil Rays for best record in the AL. With how well the White Sox have been playing at home this season and with what we did in 2005 in the Boston series and Houston series, if the WS are good enough to make the playoffs, it'd be great if they did it with the best record. Starting off on the west coast or that thunderdome down in Tampa would make things awfully tough.

I've never seen a bunt like Swisher's. Seems like the Sox still can't bunt as a whole.

2nd day in a row our bullpen blows a lead. That needs to stop. You can get away with that at home and against Cleveland. Their bullpen is in sad shape. They would rather have CC throw 115 pitches than leave it up to the pen.

Not trying to hijack a thread, but a question: since I don't have access to games on channel 26, are the channel 26 games on the mlb package on Directv? Also, if they are on the mlb package, do you get the visiting teams announcers? As stated by others, the channel 26 games drive me crazy, and last night, with all of the rain interfering with the SCORE's signal (along with some Spanish speaking station that jacks up their signal at night), I could not hear the game at all, so I had to go to the computer.
