As I mentioned in the game thread yesterday, a pretty neat story about Swisher paying for a kid and his family to come watch the Sox and catch the first pitch of the game. The kid lost his leg at birth to cancer and still somehow plays catcher for his Little League baseball team. Apparently Swisher keeps an article of the kid taped to his locker for inspiration. Comcast Sportsnight is doing an expose on the story as well. Pretty neat stuff!!!

How appropriate that this happened during ESPN's "My Wish" week.

Being at the game was awesome for that. I love how Swish threw it over the kids head and insisted he throw it again. Then the kid got in a crouch position and Nick fired a strike the kid caught. Awesome stuff... You got to love the guys on this team especially Nicky the Swish.

I love how all the players and ozzie were making the day special for the little warrior...gutsy little guy. Even Sizemore came over and talked to him.
Way to make MLB and the Sox look like folks that care....swish et.al.

First class. Not that I'd expect anything less from Swish or the Sox, but it was nice to see him and his whole family having a great time. What an experience for a little kid. Kudos.

I missed most of that, unfortunately, but I am teary-eyed just reading about it. What a special guy that Swish is, sniff. I love our team!

Saw the whole thing on comcast...very touching....what a great effort by Swish...the little guy seems like a complete warrior.

On a side note....whoever was interviewing him for comcast had to ask about the worst question in the world..."So do you think you'll be in the major leagues someday?", the young boy with only one leg quietly said, "No."
I know she didn't mean it to come out that way...but the look on the boy's face was like,"Are you crazy?".

Saw this last night on Comcast. Awesome story, and the fact the kid plays catcher for his little league team and plays goalie on his soccer team is incredible. And what a class act Swisher is. He has quickly become my favorite player on the Sox.

Agreed. Swisher is truly a special person. Swish showed us yesterday that being a good baseball player is important but that being a great human being is more important. I was in tears watching the Comcast segment yesterday. Happy for the little boy and his family that they had this experience. Kudos to Swisher and to the White sox.

All that and can bring "the Awesome?"

Thanks to KW for getting a solid ballplayer and a first class individual.

Oddly, he uses a regular mitt when catching.
