Tuesday's win was as beautiful as Monday's win was sloppy.

Danks was one pitch from pitching eight shutout innings. And with two outs in the 10th, the Sox see the Indians' solo home run and raise them a pinch-hit single, a stolen base and a game-ending single.

There is a reason I never leave the park early. I wasn't at the game, couldn't even see it on television or hear it on the radio, but I don't have to have been to feel it. I love this White Sox team.

How bad does this have to sting if you're the Indians? You just get your asses handed to you by a bad in state rival, when you finally score some runs, your pitcher gets shelled, then you get you ace on the mound, he pitches great and you can't get him a win. But then you take the lead in the 10th and have 2 outs in the bottom of the inning with no one on and can't end it or even get it to 11. Wow.

Suck it Cleveland....you have a team fitting of your fine city!!!

Ha, almost forgot about Danks. Amazing game all around on both sides of the ball (except Borowski). Great to see the Sox win one of these. The Sox are looking like the best team in baseball to me. A little hasty on this. If Alexei strikes out in the 10th, people (me included) are fuming about how Walkerball wasted (yet another) great pitching performance. Lip is posting that this is the X number game where the Sox pitching gave up 3 runs or less and lost.

When the Sox win, as they have the last 6 games, they usually look really good. When they have terrible games, they look like they are destined to finish behind the Royals. It is a long season. Things are looking good tonight. This team has championship caliber pitching, but I don't line up for the parade until they show some consistent offense.

Unfortunately, the rosters will be announced Sunday in the early afternoon. Though he should make it, I don't think he will make it because of his record.
I really hope that's not the case. Of the top 10 ERAs in the AL, only Duchscherer, Halladay, Saunders and Santana have more than five or six wins. If Mussina and Lester make it when Danks has them by a full run in ERA, that will be ridiculous, especially considering how many Red Sox and Yankees will already be on the team.

And unless we have a bad run up until Sunday, the White Sox will have the lowest team era in the AL. They deserve to have someone on that staff.

There's a chance they could. They will at least listen to offers, and we'll have to listen to all of the 'Sabathia to the Cubs?' rumors.

I hope they just play the other division rivals tough.

Might I say we were up against the man #2 in the AL with his ERA...sometimes you get beat...and the Sox did to a point...but then took advantage when they could beat the Indians back....

Hell -they very well may be right. But I feel like people jumped to conclusions on Wise and didn't give him a shot as a bench player. Same as Toby Hall got treated poorly when he came back last season from his injury...

If/when the Sox win the AL Central, this will be one of those games that could prove especially meaningful. Nice comeback, Ramirez was absolutely clutch and I love the fact the Sox won the game because of this new concept called a stolen base.

Can the Sox please, please, please get Danks some run support one of these days? Once again, he pitched his butt off and got one run. Danks deserves better.

And you and Lip would be talking out your ass. Cliff Lee is arguably the best pitcher in baseball right now. He's had 16 starts and given up 4 or more runs 3 times during those 16 starts. He's held the opposition to one or zero runs 8 times while posting a 2.26 ERA (prior to tonight) and a 1.03 WHIP while going 11-1. He'll be starting the AS game in two weeks probably.

Sometimes it's not about the Sox offense not performing up to expectations. More so tonight when the ump had a massive strike zone both vertically and horizontally for both teams.

Still, TCM didn't strike out and Wise and OC came through too, so the folks whining about the offense's inconsistency can climb back in their hole for another day.

I think Ozzie has done the right thing by platooning Wise and Anderson. BA helped us beat the Cubs the other night, and Wise has really done a nice job filling in. We haven't had too many games where a key stolen base at the right time led to a victory.

We don't have a starting CF while Swish is playing 1B - but unless we get one, I can see Wise and BA platooning the rest of the year. I don't think either one is good - but I believe the combination of the two is better than having either one play every day.

Either way - when PK comes back, both Wise and BA will get very few ABs.

I do like Wise coming off the bench and spot starting though.

But Wise has hit righties extremely well since his recall, better than Anderson would. It would behoove BA to become better against lefties. He's going to need that to stay in the major leagues.

I thought it was interesting that BA homered on a hit-and-run the other night. Ozzie put some responsibility on him, forcing him to shorten his swing and put the ball in play. Lo and behold, he put a charge into it.

I think the platoon will be based largely on what OG feels like we need that day. Probably a lot of managerial gut feeling. I know that isn't popular in many camps, but Guillen has good instincts with this roster. Until PK comes back, I'm fine with how he is using both BA and Wise. Once PK comes back, I'd hope OG would rest Thome against some tough LHP, rest PK against some RHP, make sure Dye stays fresh...etc. etc and we have ample ABs for both Wise and BA to at least stay active.

I'm pretty sure he had a big HR Sunday night, picked up a hit last night, again tonight...in the three games he's started this week, he's 3/9 with a HR.

He's still got some holes in his swing..but I like the idea of having ONE outfielder that can give us Gold Glove type defense. If we move Uribe...we'll have room for BA.

I have to say this might be one of the best wins of the year. With two of the top pitchers in A.L. pitching their best, the offenses sometimes have to just tip their caps. While the "Missile" might not be Rookie of the Year, he sure is one of the best free agent pickups. This win may have pushed Cleveland to the brink as this loss had to be extremely disheartening. I'm liking this team a lot. Let's keep it going.

Got home 10 minutes ago. That home run by Alexei... I was in the upper deck and the way that LF was following it I thought for sure it was game over.

Not a sellout crowd by far, but most (90%?) of the lower bowl stuck it out, I love seeing that.

How many Ks did Danks have? That DP by Dye with 0 outs was frustrating but the whole time I recognized we were going eye for eye with the "hero" Cliff Lee.

As soon as Wise got on base you knew he was on second, when was the last time we had that? (Podsednik, 2005)

The game reminds me of the Dodgers AJ walkoff in June 2005... as soon as it was OVAH my dad was saying, with heavy south side skepticism, "I don't know... this might be the year."

And Anderson's had 3 offensively productive starts in a row.
And he could improve and could develop into a real starter, so there is an investment aspect (admittedly not that key this time of year when we're trying to make the playoffs and win a championship).

But man did that thing barely make it over, I thought it was a pop up to LF but after it got by me and was staying pretty high (My seats are in 150) I thought it had a chance and I looked at Francisco and I saw him jump and it bounced off the yellow line and into the bullpen. The whole place erupted, it was just insane excitement.

Then obviously Wise's single and SB and I just had a feeling OC would come through and drive it to RF or CF after he pulled it. But regardless it was an amazing win.

At 4 million for four years, one of the great bargains going right now. He seems to like the pressure situations. The sox are 28-12 in games he has started. .700 ball with Alexei..wow.

A classic finish to a great pitchers duel. Now, tomorrow nite the sox see yet another lefty in CC...maybe seeing three in a row will help them? Another toughie..then Duscherere(leading era in baseball) and then Harden(2.45) and Blanton and Mr Smith. yikes. Can we face the NL pitching again? The way you describe it, I am reminded of another game-tying home run against the Indians. Frank Thomas, with two on and two out, hit a fly so high and centerfielder Milton Bradley drifted back to the wall. I don't know if it came down on top of the wall or just cleared it, and a game the Sox had been losing since the fifth was knotted up. Ordonez followed with a walk. Konerko was hit by a pitch and Lee walked, bringing up Joe Crede who lined a single to right to end what minutes earlier felt like a disappointing loss.

I don't want to compare the games. That was 2002 -- the September game that led to Royce Clayton's release. The Sox were a distant second to the Twins and were out of the wild card lead by double digits. That was a great game, probably the best I attended all year. What makes tonight's game more special, though, is that I have a felling that for the 2008 White Sox, tonight's game is only a taste of what the season holds.

I feel it.

It's unfortunate that a good amount of people left after Casey Blake's homer...Not me though!
Do you think if the Sox somehow chase CC early and pound the Toons out of the park, that Cleveland will officially quite on this season before the All Star Break?
Oh, god, I hope not! I want them to give Detroit and Minnesota some problems when they meet.

I was there and it was nothing short of amazing. I have these 3 idiots sitting in front of me and after there was 2 outs they leave and I turn to my friend and go "Watch Alexei hit a homer now" and sure enough he did!

The win tonight also extended my home game win streak to 6 haha.
I'm in the section right over from you in 149, and I thought that was gonna be caught at the end of the warning track. In no way did I think it was going over. It took a second before I realized it was over.

This gives me a personal 9-game winning streak. :bandance:

BTW, what row are you in?

We need a lot more comeback wins like this one. Before tonight we rolled over and died at the sight of a 1 run deficiet (sp?) which is probably why everyone at the park started leaving early. Pierzynski's reaction shows that this team now has winning in their veins and they will be hungry for more wins like this.:bandance::bandance::bandance::bandance::band ance:

That's really not true at all. Hell, just a week or two ago they were down 6 and came back to win. This team has shown plenty of fight this year.

I thought my post was pretty clear. Care to explain your confusion?

God obviously cares deeply about the important things: like who wins the AL Central. I guess Frankfan4lifed got confused by his priorities.

I think Ozzie has done the right thing by platooning Wise and Anderson. BA helped us beat the Cubs the other night, and Wise has really done a nice job filling in. We haven't had too many games where a key stolen base at the right time led to a victory.

I'll say this: The platoon has paid off in the W-L column. And that's all that's important. :D:

Short of a family emergency, I've never understood leaving a ballgame before it's over. If "beating the traffic" is your biggest concern, why go at all?

I left on Sunday and didn't stay for the top of 9. Saved myself 45+ min of waiting by missing a half inning that would either be meaningless - or piss me off. Ended up the former - and I was almost home in he North suburbs by the time the last out was recorded. I caught 8 great innings and a Sox win. Missing 1/2 of a meaningless inning to get home 1 hour early is something I will do every time.

OK, so I'm sitting at my house watching the game with my father-in-law who is driving back to Las Vegas today. Granted, he's a Sox fan, but a baseball idiot. We didn't start watching the game until the 8th inning because my wife and I took him and my mother-in-law out to eat at Lou Malnati's. After Thornton gives up the homer, he starts swearing, calling Thornton an idiot, saying the team sucks because they can't score more than one run. I explained to him the Sox were facing one of if not the toughest pitchers in the Majors right now but to no avail. Then comes the bottom of the 10th. After the first two outs, he cussing...again. Since he doesn't get to watch much baseball in Vegas, nor does he actually follow the Sox, he looks at Alexei and says "Does this guy have anything?" I told him not to underestimate him, that he's got good power. Then the moonshot homer, and we're going nuts! To be honest, I thought the ball hit the top of the wall, and said it was lucky a better LF'er wasn't out there, otherwise the catch is made.

After Wise got the hit, I told him he would steal second. When he did, I just knew OC would end it. Now, my father-in-law gets to drive back to Vegas a happy man after watching the most thrilling win of the season thus far.

Also, it's nice that a couple of players that Sox fans here and elsewhere (OC, Wise) have ripped as worthless come through. Great, great, great win.

What a horrible move Ozzie made having Wise pinch hit for BA! How's he ever going to hit .500 when he doesn't get enough at bats??

Great game to be at. My company won a silent auction for one of the suites to last night's game. Of course, we had some Cub fans from work in the room making comments before Alexei's blast, but we had the last laugh as usual. :gulp:

Playoff type win! :bandance: I was a fan of Wise when he was first brought up and after last night I hope he stays with this team permanently. He's like a bigger version of Willie Harris! :D: Danks was phenominal last night! The kid pitched his ass off. Alexei has alot of power, ALOT. His homer was hit so hard, you'd think it was hit by Thome! I have a great feeling about this team and what they're capable of. The home plate celebration was reminiscent of '05. This is going to be an awesome year!

This is one heck of a fun year.

This is becoming one of my favorite year's ever. Starting to rank right up there with,1920, 1959-1967, 1977, 1983, 1993, 2000, 2005

Live in the moment and enjoy!!

A little hasty on this. If Alexei strikes out in the 10th, people (me included) are fuming about how Walkerball wasted (yet another) great pitching performance. Lip is posting that this is the X number game where the Sox pitching gave up 3 runs or less and lost.

That's just it. That didn't happen. The Sox won a close game after the 8th inning, and scored with 2 outs while trailing. They also scored a runner in scoring position with 2 outs. All things they have not done. They have also raised batting average lately, and crushed the ball in June.

Between pitching and hitting and defense, I don't see a better team out there at this moment.

Ramirez has been nothing short of incredible.

Since he took over in SF in May:

41 Games
50-148 (.338)
10 doubles, 6 homers, 23 RBIs

Oh...and gold glove defense.

I agree with you on Wise. I've always said that speed is underrated in baseball. Our team simply can use more, and he provides it.

BTW, the Nats fans are starting to fall in love with Willie Harris. He has been coming through lately for them.

Hello Pinar_del_Rio_WS - so nice to hear from you again. I can tell you that Alexei also has many new fans here in Chicago now! I am still smiling after the win last night. What a finish! Last night after the game, I enjoyed watching Alexei being interviewed (via an translator) on TV. Also I wanted to tell you that after Alexei hit his home run, all of the White Sox players were cheering for him from the dugout and I saw a very excited and happy Jose Contreras pump his fist! Also after the win, all of the White Sox players came running onto the field jumping up and down and clapping. Very exciting finish!

I regret that I am working on the road and didn't see this one. It must have been quite the rush in the 10th.

Danks is beginning to remind me of a modern day Joel Horlen. I don't know what else he can do to put up a "W". Man, what a future he should have ahead of him.

Yes, I must admit--he is Dankerific.

After Danks' last performance against the Dodgers, Steve Stone said on the post game that he feels that the Sox are grooming John to be an eventual number one starter. He was raving positives about all things Danks, from his stuff to his competitiveness. Stoney said that once he learns to be more crafty (not try to strike everybody out) that he'll be a top of the line starter. Can anyone truly admit that a year ago we'd be saying these things about John Danks?

WOW!! Too bad Danks couldn't get the win! :(:
yeah well what new? Danks is the ace of this staff IMO. But since people usually go by wins, he didn't even make the top 5 Chicago starters list last week.

Great comeback after Thornton blew the tie! I admit, I was in the stands spouting off negative comments and I did not think we were going to pull it off, however, I did say if anyone is gonna do it Alexi can!:gulp:

In the "Who's the White Sox ace" thread, I took Danks. He had that one bad start in Minnesota, but still has kept his ERA in the 2's. He's been strong all season, and that cutter really has helped. I think he might make it all season this year, which makes him an AL Cy candidate. Sox gotta start getting him some wins.

I wasn't thinking #1 starter or anything, but I did see him go toe to toe with Johann Santana, and by all rights, kept us in the game against him. He gave up 3 runs on two bad pitches, and kept the twins down all day. I knew he was something then, and I knew his numbers would only continue to get better.

As far as ace, I still have to give it to MB. Besides that rough patch, who else knows how to deal with big game pressure on a big spotlight and come through?

Danks has given up 2 or less runs in 14 of 17 starts...that sounds like an ace to me. MB is still the leader but Danks is being groomed,no doubt.
I want to return to 05 when all five guys could be an ace on their nite out there ,specially in the playoffs.

I wonder how many Diamonbacks fans left this afternoon in the eighth was their team was down 5-0. If you're not going to give yourself a chance to see something you've never seen before at a baseball game by leaving early, why bother going?
