View Full Version : White Sox all stars?

So which players do you guys think on this White Sox team are most deserving of going to the All-star game?

My top picks are obviously TCQ and JD as they have 36 HR and 109 RBI between the 2.

My other picks some may not agree on.

Scott Linebrink. Now I know it's rare for a set up man to make it to the all star game as relievers that are usually there are top closers, but look at his numbers.

2-2 with a 1.41 ERA he's only given up 21 hits in 32 IP, he also leads the AL in holds with 18. I definitely think he should be considered for the team.

Now some people may not agree with me because he only has 5 wins, but John Danks stats this year are phenomenal. He's only given up 6 HR's so far and his ERA stands at 2.62 and has been going down of late. Now if his offense which just help him out with a 4-5 run lead every now and then he may win 15+ games this season. I really hope Francona looks past the wins and losses when looking at the starters.

Danks, TCQ, Dye, and Linebrink.

I think they all deserve it, but I'd honestly rather have them all at home that weekend resting up for the second half.

Danks far and away is our most deserving pitcher though. Wins are a useless measure in this case.

Not to disqualify Linebrink, but there's no way he makes it.

The All Star game is just a popularity contest. Just send Jenks, and let everyone else get a nice long rest.

There's a glut of players that have shown All-Star type play this year:

TCQ
JD
AJ
Dotel/Linebrink
Alexei
Jose
Javy
Danks
Floyd

Of those, the most consistent (most ASG worthy?) players are TCQ, JD, AJ and Danks.

Slight hijack: Does anyone know why the break is 4 days this year instead of 3?

I think some years some teams get four, some get three.

It's been like that for the last few years at least.

Jenks is not going to make the team. K-Rod, Papelbon, Nathan, Rivera and Soria all have more saves and better ERAs.

My guess is less than deserve it; however, I think most of the guys on this team are more about how we do as a team and less about an all-star selection.

Danks, Dye, and Carlos.

My favorite part of the upcoming game - with no Sox starting, TCQ, AJ or Dye (or whomever makes it) will have to make a late inning/pinch hit appearance. Helping the AL win in clutch fashion could help the Sox come October. Just sayin...

Crede gets in and TCQ gets in as the 32nd.

I'm hoping both Dye and Q.

In reality, just Quentin will be invited.

Deserve: Quentin, Dye, Linebrink and Floyd[if he wins his next 2 starts]

Gets in: Quentin and maybe Floyd or Dye.

Dye and Quentin will both make it. No doubt.

There are other deserving players--Pierzynski, Linebrink, and Danks come to mind.

Do they ever take 3 catchers on the all star team? If so AJ deserves to go. If not, he's the odd man out.

I think we could have another "Punch AJ" campaign to win on our hands.

CQ, Dye, Crede and AJP.
Crede is 32nd.

I think Dye, TCQ, Floyd and Danks. You could argue Linebrink but I don't know enough about other middle relievers to say if he's the best or not. Assuming Dye and TCQ get in, I really hope at least one of Floyd or Danks makes it in too - really deserve some recognition for how they've stepped it up for a first place ballclub.

THE Carlos Quentin, JD, Danksy, Linebrink and AJ all deserve to go, among a few others. What's the most we've ever sent?

Jermaine Dye- Should be a no brainer

TCQ -Should also be a no brainer.

AJ - He's quietly having a great year but most likely won't make the team.

John Danks - Great ERA . Slight chance he'll make it.

Alexie Rameriez - My new favorite player. He's my pick for the 32nd man contest.

I doubt we get any pitchers because no starters/closers have the numbers and middle relief usually comes from the teams that have to have one guy selected.

I think AJP will get squeezed out in a popularity contest and Dye's hot streak and veteran presence will push out TCQ leaving us with one all star (Dye) who doesn't care if he makes it or not.

The result: a bunch of chips on shoulders for the second half.

Deserves to make it:
Dye
Quentin
Danks
Floyd
Pierzynski
Crede(maybe)
And just about anyone from the pen

Will make it:
Dye
Quentin

Borderline on making it:

What if Floyd has 2 more games like last nights before the ASG?

11-4 on the Majors 2nd best staff [ERA], 2 near No-No's, and an era in the low 3's?

Discuss....

Danks sure as hell made a case for himself today. He doesn't get the win. But His ERA stands at 2.50. Danks deserves it almost as much as Quentin, I'm really really hoping Francona looks past his mediocre 5-4 record.

JermaineDye05

I think we all know that Quentin will be on the team, I only wonder if Francona will pick a White Sox pitcher. I mean they are the best pitching staff in the MAJORS right now not just the AL. Considering pitching wins championships, you'd think at least one Sox pitcher should be there, with Buehrle's slow start and Javy having a couple bad starts, it seems obvious that Danks or Floyd should be there. In all honesty it should be Danks, maybe he can finally get some run support at the allstar game? Although he won't get the win, it'll be nice to see.

Danks' ERA only makes the case for him to make the All-Star team if the Sox don't have any other all-stars and the Sox need to name someone. He hasn't won enough games for serious consideration.

Well, if you want my opinion, I say send 1 Sox player (TCQ) and let everybody else take a 4 day mini-vacation. I want our pitchers, players, manager and general manager rested for the stretch run. Hey, why not send Southpaw, our mascot?

I'm kidding of course, but we all know that All-Star game is a popularity contest to see which of the "nations" - Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs - sends the most players. I am interested in seeing White Sox baseball played late into October, say up until around October 26 or so?

Quentin will be added when Manny bows out.

I hope Linebrink doesn't make it, and if he does make it, I hope he doesn't pitch. As a reliever, he probably would. The pitchers held back would probably be starters who could pitch multiple innings.

Natonal League hitters did have some success against Linebrink last year, but he did OK in the interleague games. Still, I'm not sure he is the best pick among American League relievers. He's not a closer, and he's given up two game-winning home runs and one ninth-inning game tying home run.

If Crede makes it over Quentin and Quentin only gets in after Manny decides not to play I'll go crazy. Quentin should be the first person Francona adds to the team once he gets his starting lineup and pitchers.

How is AJ not a lock? He has the best stats among AL catchers next to Mauer. I think he, Dye and Quentin should go.

AJ is not a lock because Mauer is going to win the fan vote and there's a chance AJ is screwed by the managers/players' vote for backup because AJ is unpopular around the rest of the league. They might select Varitek even though AJ has much better stats. It would be a joke if it happened though.

That really surprises me. It must be a down year for catchers in the AL. AJ has nice numbers, I'm just used to allstar catchers having stats a little better.

There hae been worse years. Terry Steinbach was an all-star catcher three times.
