Have I ever told you how much I love the Twins?

They're so fundamentally sound. They bunt, steal bases and pitch well. They are such a scrappy team. Always the "David" to everyone's "Goliath". Gotta root for them, gotta love the underdog. :screwloose:

Every American League Central team came away with a victory today.

God the NL blows.

I mean you start the year out thinking the Diamondbacks are good....turns out they just had a lot of games early agasint what is shaping up to be a historically bad division. I'd say the Cubs, Phillies, and MAYBE Marlins are the only teams worth anything in that league. Stl and Mil seem to want to compete a bit too, but they won't be there at the end.

Don't get me wrong, the Twins are beating the teams on teh schedule, but they have a brutal 30 game stretch starting after MIL....it should be interesting to see if they can keep it up.

The Phillies have been ****ty as of late. Yet they still hold a slim lead in the NL East. I highly doubt the World Series winner this year is going to come from the National League. If the AL wins the All-Star Game, it's game over for the NL.

As one with ties to South Florida, I'd love to see the Fighting Fish top them in the NL East. And if, God forbid, you-know-who should win the NL Central, I'd love nothing better than to see the Marlins knock them off and face us in (a losing effort) in the 2008 World Series.

I'm grasping at straws here.

I mean every team besides the Cubs has tanked at one point this year in the NL, and the fact that the Cubs haven't lost 3 in a row this year against an NL team says a lot about the state of the league seeing as how they have only two legit starting pitchers.

The Twins have this uncanny ability to pull this kind of stuff off.

Playing in the Metrodome helps, I read a story where players were quoted as saying it takes them a game just to get used to the place.

Remember in 1991 (I think) Minnesota had an ungodly win streak, it was 15 or 17 in a row (I think Baltimore finally beat them), and in 2006 after Memorial Day they played something like .650 ball to take the division.

They have a balanced offense that doesn't really go into a slump because they can always find a way to scratch out a run or two. They are exceptional at fundamentals which also never goes into a slump.

This stretch is being helped by nine home games out of 12, and playing the garbage N.L. teams like Washington and San Diego (while the Sox get the Cubs...)

I hope (think) they'll come back down to Earth when interleague plays stops, but remember everyday they hang around (much like an undermanned basketball team) their confidence grows that much more.

And don't forget, Detroit is now almost a .500 team after a horrid start that should have destroyed them, they've won 8 of 11... even the Royals have moved out of last place and actually have a shot at maybe finishing around .500.

The Sox apparently are not going to have any room for error. A two week stretch of poor play right now for any team in the division could wind up burying them.
